While I've never been a big fan of LaRussa's, the one thing you can say is his teams always play hard. That would be a huge improvement, so I'd be in favor of hiring him.

It's looking like it's time for Ozzie to be fired, and he practically seems to be begging for it. One of the big reasons teams find it so hard to repeat is they remain too loyal to the people who helped them win the title, even when it's obvious changes need to be made. While such feeling is admirable from a personal perspective, it's deadly to the goal of remaining a winner.

Amen! How many World Series champs in recent years have retained the bulk of the team that helped them win? The Red Sox only have two, maybe three starters left over from 2004, and a completely new infield.

I've never read a Jay Mariotti article.

3/9 starting position players (Ramirez, Ortiz, Varitek)

2 bench players (Youkilis, Mirabelli)

2/5 starting pitchers (Schilling, Wakefield)

1 reliever (Timlin)

So 3 years later and 8/25 of the '04 squad remains.

Funny, Mariotti actually writes something with a lot of truth to it...

Kotex-boy has written about someone needing to be fired about as many times as Hawk has called for Kotex-boy to be fired...

Amen .

His columns have no shock value because his whole schtick is to call for manager's to be fired (he wanted Lou to quit earlier this season as you recall or maybe you don't recall; yes he did).

His repertoire of columns: Bench Rex. Fire the GM (of Bears, Sox, Bulls, Cubs). Play Griese. Bench Rex. Play Orton. Bench Rex. Fire Ozzie. Bench Rex. Fire Lou. Fire Williams. Get Rid of Harrelson. He should be fired for writing the same Ozzie column so many times.

The best article was in the Trib in which Ozzie points out that Piniella also ripped his Cub players this year and asked for some better players. And Lou was not lambasted for this.

Ozzie is not the problem.

Ozzie is awesome!

How anybody could subscribe to the Sun Times with Mariotti writing for it is amazing to me. At least it's free on the Internet.

Sometimes you got to make changes.

WORST. NICKNAME. EVER.

..and it came from an obnoxious blowhard as well.

Actually I think it is the best Mariotti nickname out there, because it desribes him to a T. He is pretty much always on the rag.
