Ely facing Wieters. My brother's at the game, so I'll have a full recap later tonight.

Wieters got a hit in the first inning, but Ely struck out 2 and got out of the inning without giving up a run.

Man, I'm jealous.

 

That would be a fun game to be at.

 

I look to hearing what he has to say.

Here's what I heard about Ely tonight. He was in the 90-92 mph range in his first 60 or so pitches. My brother said the umpire had the biggest strike zone he's ever seen, so it was hard to really judge. He struck out Wieters on a nice sequence. However, my brother told me that the last few innings Ely pitched, his fastball was being clocked at 83 mph. Overall, he was pretty satisfied with what he saw, as our family has known Ely for 10 years now.

Ohka pitched ok in a complete game loss, (L, 0-3): 8 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 1 HR

Fields: 0 for 4, 2 K.

Yeah, and 3 of those were Winston-Salem, meaning the Sox, Charlotte, Birmingham and Kannapolis combined for ONE run. Not a good day.

Jason Rice would be interesting to keep an eye on if he has his walks under control at all.

 

214 IP in his career, given up only 165 hits, and 229 K's. But then there's the ugly 161 BB's which puts his ERA at 4.46.

Gotta admit though... his 5 inning; 11 strikeout; and only two walk outing this week is pretty intriguing.

 

And on the season so far (3 starts)... 19 strikeouts and only 3 walks in 13 2/3 innings.
