D'oh! The Barons never get any rehab players, and we have an open roster spot right now.

I understand major league players getting rehab assignments in the minors, but why wouldn't Fields just play for the Knights?

I was relatively curious about that as well, was surprised he was in Winston Salem. Only thing I could think of is that they wanted him to get some confidence before coming back to Charlotte. Although, I do know that he isn't the first Sox minor leaguer to rehab at a lower level, although it is much more typical with pitchers coming back from injuries.

The only thing I can think of is roster space.
