Jason Bay to the Rays Falls Through

With the three-way deal between the Pirates, Red Sox, and Marlins falling through, an MLB.com source says that the Rays are going to acquire right-handed hitting outfielder Jason Bay for Minor League prospects including shortstop Reid Brignac and right-hander Jeff Niemann. The Rays have not confirmed the deal.

LB.com's Bill Chastain with the scoop - the Rays have acquired Jason Bay for Reid Brignac and Jeff Niemann. The Rays haven't confirmed it yet though. I wonder if Bay would DH for the Rays. Will we see a Jack Wilson trade next, or will that wait until the offseason? Brignac, 22, is hitting .257/.304/.429 in 91 Triple A games. He probably isn't ready yet.

Niemann, 25, has a 3.53 ERA in 18 Triple A starts this year. He'll probably go straight into the Pirates' rotation

Nothing in stone but its there

This is like fourth hand information, ESPN deadline chat is saying Jason Bay is headed to the Rays for Reid Brignac and Jeff Niemann.

Interesting, if true.

3 threads on it .. looks like i beat you all .. hah :lolhitting

If this is true and TB makes the playoffs then TB and LAA are both going to be fun to watch. We have faired well against both.

That rhymes marge, and you know it rhymes, admit it!

That's a good deal for the Rays only giving up 1 of their top 4 prospects in Brignac.

Long - term there wasn't a place for him in all likelihood after the drafting of Tim Beckham anyways.

And now the Pirates have gotten 6 prospects back, only 2 real good ones I'd say for Bay, Nady and Marte.

yeah 2 real good ones like you said in Tabata and Brignac which gives them atleast something, you have two OF to build around in Tabata and McCutchen and then Brignac at SS. If the Pirates trade Jack Wilson they could get another good prospect. Niemann I think will be a good add to their pitching staff, it cant hurt.

His agreement calls for a $1 million signing bonus and salaries of $750,000 next year, $3.25 million in 2007, $5.75 million in 2008 and $7.5 million in 2009. His salary in the final year could also escalate by up to $750,000.

2:43pm: MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo says there is no done deal - the Rays might not make Brignac available.

I think its stupid on the Rays part if they actually dont get Bay because they want to hold on to Brignac

Pretty good deal for the Rays, if they at least get him next year, cause they definitely will compete next year too...
