If you only had to give up a mid - level prospect, I'd be for it, especially with Boone being very inconsistent lately.

He mentions both the Red and White Sox, but then says "the sox" might end up with Grabow. Good reporting there...

David O'Brien names the Red Sox, Cardinals, Rays, Tigers, and White Sox parties interested in Will Ohman. But the Sox might end up with John Grabow, and the Tigers may be content with Kyle Farnsworth as their relief addition. Grabow may also be on the Rays' radar.

 

Which "Sox" are they talking about here?

I don't know the guy, but looking at his career, I'd rather stick with Boone.

I remember the NY media speculated about getting him before they got Marte and said it would only take a mid - level prospect most likely.

 

I take that with a grain of salt, but if the price was right and with Masset gone, we need another reliever IMHO.

Getting Grabow would be the type of move that puts good closure on the Whitesox Trade Deadline

I know I'm in the minority here, but, assuming Linebrink is healthy and will really be back soon, then I don't see the Sox needing relief help. A pen of Jenks-Linebrink-Dotel-Thornton-Logan-Wassermann-Carrasco is, IMO, better than most teams run out there. If you can upgrade one of those last three, great, but I don't see Grabow as any significant upgrade to Logan (which is who he'd be replacing, I assume).

I think we can upgrade there. It may not be a factor come playoff time if we make it, but it may help us win an extra game or 2 by upgrading that spot right there.

Both of them could be upgraded of course. But I don't consider a Grabow-level guy to be that.

 

Carrasco is the long man - there aren't really a lot of truly great long relievers out there, because its the bottom rung job. If you can find one, great, but they are rare.

 

And Wassermann isn't really a ROOGY anymore anyway, now that he has a change. He showed that the other night against the Twins. He's a 1 to 2 inning reliever who induces groundballs, gives the hitters a different look, but isn't dominant. There are certainly better relievers out there, but, look at it in terms of value. How much would a relief pitcher that is a significant upgrade there cost you? And aren't most of those that are that good, doing setup or closing work? Would they be happy being the 4th guy on the totem poll?

I'm ready to go on a full fledged assault on the media in regards to the "Sox" debate. I know Yas has mentioned it before, and I've mentioned it several times, but honestly, truthfully, and even brutally, name me the only team that mentions only "Sox" on their uniform. In the same regard, name me the only "Sox" team that mentions the color on their uniform; in the same regard, name me the other "Sox" team and let me know when and how they mention their color ever on their jerseys.

 

It's absolute f***ing bulls*** that the Red Sox are the "Sox" when, in fact, they have "Red Sox" on their uniform, and the White Sox rarely, if ever, have "White Sox" on their uniform, and roughly 99% of the time have JUST "SOX" on their uniform and their hat. Apparently the east coast bias is stupid and bulls*** and (adjective) and (adjective) and (adjective) and (adjective) and whatever the f*** else. I hope the Sox win it again this year and the next year and hopefully Fenway is blown to bits and the Red Sox become the Boston ESPN's so then there is only one Sox.
