July 10, 200322 yr Who should the White Sox hire after this season if they indeed do fire Jerry Manuel???
July 10, 200322 yr Anybody that can figure this out and will leave it alone. Frank Thomas does better playing 1st base.
July 10, 200322 yr Backman, Valentine, and Torborg seem like the top 3 but I dont like Torborg cuz he uses his starters tooooo much.
July 11, 200322 yr Billy Martin Sorry..... I forgot we already have a corpse managing a corpseball team
July 11, 200322 yr Dave Wanstedtt lol well even he did better once he left chicago.........geez us........
July 11, 200322 yr I wish they'd go ahead and can both KW and JM. Let Hahn or whoever spend the rest of the season evaluating what talent we do have and let Backman get comfortable with the team and be in place as they revamp it.
July 11, 200322 yr You know what, you guys (and gals) might call me crazy, but what about Steve Stone?
July 11, 200322 yr How about a guy named Joe Torre, he is on the last year of his contract, and according to many people he will not return to the Yankees next year.
July 11, 200322 yr You know what, you guys (and gals) might call me crazy, but what about Steve Stone? Whoa, whoa, whoa. I know you did not mention that name on a White Sox message board. BOO BOO BOO! Absolutely out of the question!!! Nice try though

July 11, 200322 yr No, I'm serious. He's a good guy, a smart baseball mind and a former White Sox. I would rather have the Hawk as the manger than him. And also pitchers usualy suck as managers.
July 11, 200322 yr How about Hawk with DJ as the hitting coach... Wait, I deserve something for that comment
July 11, 200322 yr I was talking about it with my buddy Big Irish and he brought up an interesting candidate. Why not Ozzie Guillen. The man was the White Sox for so many years. He would be a perfect fit. He's at least way more lively that JM. The only problem is it may be tough to convince him to leave his job as base coach for the Devil Rays to join the sad sad SOX!

Yeah, and he also said, "we don't need the fans." A real fan favorite. I'm sticking with Steve Stone. I might even go with Valentin as player/manager.

He coaches for the Marlins. And I agree he would be a great canidate, he reminds me of Pena. with his lively additude
July 11, 200322 yr I bet Joe Torre would rather manage a box of biscuits over the White Sox. I don't know about bicuits, but I can manage a box of donuts right about now.
July 11, 200322 yr I really don't want Torre all that much. Not only would he cost a ton, but, IMHO, he really isn't that much better then JM. Did anyone consider that Torre was successful because he had a manager that would spend hundreds of millions of dollars on his baseball team? If JR dished out $100-$120 million on good, baseball talent, like Steinbrenner does, he could make me look like the next Connie Mack. Think about it. We, as a ballclub, are dead, because there is no fire, no intensity there. Then you bring in a cool manager that rarely gets fired up about a call, like Torre, who is supposedly a good manager. This guy, before coming to the Yankees, was a sub-.500 manager with the Mets, Cardinals, and Braves. Had the Yankees hired JM and we hired Torre at the times they were hired, I bet people right now would be calling for the head of Torre, and JM would have 4 rings on his hand. I'd much rather have Wally Backman, who atleast has a history of winning and only winning at some level of baseball. And he's cheap....something that JR likes a lot. And unless Piniella gets canned for some odd reason at the end of the year, and we don't make the playoffs and JM is canned, I don't think there is any reason to look outside the organization for a manager.
July 11, 200322 yr How about Hawk with DJ as the hitting coach... Wait, I deserve something for that comment I have and will always say that DJ would make an excellent manager.
