December 9, 200817 yr Tragic news from MLB.Com Aparicio's grandson killed in Venezuela By David Venn / MLB.com The grandson of Hall of Famer Luis Aparicio and his college classmate were reported killed in the city of Barquisimeto, Venezuela. Nelson Luis Aparicio Leon, 23, and Juan Eduardo Cordero Lozada, 25, were found shot to death inside an Aveo jeep in the sector of El Malecon. According to LaVerdad.com, police are initially treating the case as a murder for hire, although the Venezuelan Web site's report also includes speculation that it could have been an attempted kidnapping or robbery. Aparicio Leon is the second relative of a famous baseball player to be murdered in the last week in Venezuela. On Dec. 1, the brother of Chicago Cubs catcher Henry Blanco was found shot to death in the state of Miranda, in a case local police have treated as a kidnapping.
December 9, 200817 yr why do players live there? Blanco's brother now this. I am afraid Ozzie will be targeted next. People in that country do this type of thign for a living. This is just sick stuff.
December 9, 200817 yr QUOTE (quickman @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 08:45 PM) why do players live there? Blanco's brother now this. I am afraid Ozzie will be targeted next. People in that country do this type of thign for a living. This is just sick stuff. good points. This is terrible news
December 9, 200817 yr I get that its a rough area, but why ballplayers relatives? is that random or is there some kind of reasoning behind the kills?
December 9, 200817 yr It's home. Why did Cosby's kid live in L.A.? Why did JFK go to Dallas? The US is pretty damn violent also, yet we still live here.
December 9, 200817 yr Michael Jordan's father, etc. I lived in Colombia for one year (05-06), so I can only say that these guys (and their families) are very high profile, and easy targets for kidnappers or those looking for a ransom, unless things go awry, which usually happens. Remember the whole Uribe shooting incident last year? Of course, Guillen's good friend (maybe best friend) Gus Polidor was killed, and Ugueth Urbina was kidnapped but also jailed for murder. I really wish Ozzie would at least have a driver/bodyguard down there with him, not that this can prevent a superior, well-trained force from taking someone...Ozzie's kind of like, if we change our lives or make concessions, we "let the terrorists" win, it's his home, and I guess it's worth the risk to him to spend time down there, until something happens to one of his family members.
