Ozzie Guillen, Manager of the Sox?

If being an old favorite qualifies one for coaching, I am glad that KW is GM and not some of us (except Jason who should be GM).  And I gag while I type that about KW.

Surely you can't be talking about me :D

I fixed it, good buddy! :headbang

Lol...YAY :headbang

He could bunt, he could steal, and he could play defense, how many guys on this team can say that?

All true. Which is why I hated him so much. Ozzie had TALENT. Big deal. I'm not impressed with talent as much as I am with what someone does with it. Ozzie never did anything to improve his offense when just a little bit of discipline would have helped the team immensely. What good is a base stealer who can't get on base? How is Ozzie going to impose discipline on players when he never had any himself?

I never thought about it this way but you are right - thanks for stating what I had thought but not put into words :cheers

If this thread is about possible managers for next year, two who I would like to have considered, besides Wally Backman, are Robin Yount (D-Backs) and Terry Pendleton (Braves).

JF, those are both interesting possibilities -

if he did, then i didn't read that. i thought he was hired on earlier this yr with det, or some east coast team.

Alou was bench coach last year for the Tigs.

Gary Carter. If I can't have Pudge, I'll take the next best thing. Both guys could be great managers.

Prolly will be backman, although i would rather have a manager who has big league post season experience, but doubt jr will pay that much....

oh and fisk is wearing redsox hat in hall cuz that is what the hall voted him in as... they chose

I'm not sure about that. I always thought the hat a player wore into the HoF was the players choice. Besides, most of Fisk's records were achieved in a White Sox uniform.

gotta go with CK -

when Fisk enetered the hall, he choose his hat and much melodrama attending

the rule has since changed ("the Fisk Rule") where the HOP picks the hat

Was reading the trib and saw this

Florida third base coach Ozzie Guillen spoke to White Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf on Thursday, but he wasn't looking for a job.

Guillen has remained friends with Reinsdorf since leaving the organization and still consults with him about investments.

Guillen said he believes he's capable of managing in the big leagues, but he respects Sox manager Jerry Manuel too much to campaign for his job.

This is really interesting to see. I wouldn't be against having Guillen a part of the organization in some way. I still stick to my guns that Backman or DJ would be good managers, but I like how Jerry keeps some of his really good fundemental players around.

Fisk would be another really good guy to have in this organization, too bad he isn't. I don't know if I'd risk hiring him right off the bat, especially with a candidate in Backman around, but I could definately see him on the coaching staff.

I know one thing, he would of been a good hire as a base coach, although I have no complaints with Kim (Way better then Waving Wally).

i would rather see #72
