Everett trade rumors

Featured Replies

I was just reading one of the Texas boards and they are pretty convinced that Rupe and Webster will be the guys that the Rangers pick. Anyone else heard anything?

lol...When u put Everett trade rumors I thought u were saying he was gonna be traded again

I'd almost guarantee thats people speculating. In my opinion the Rangers would be nuts to take Webster. They should snag Pacheco, Rupe and another.

The trade will be a good one if the Sox can hold onto one of Pacheco/Rupe. It will be a great one if they can hold onto both of them.

The Rangers have said they want pitching and speed in this trade. Rupe and Webster would give them one of each.

I just hope that they dont touch Pacheco. I believe that we accquired him from the rockies in the Sandy Alomar trade. In my eyes i believe that move was one of Kennys best.

Pacheco, Rupe, Francisco. Book it. Very expensive, unless Everett gets real hot and stays hot.

In my eyes that was one of Kenny's luckiest. There was no good about it.

I was just going to say that Francisco certainly made his case last night. I wouldn't mind seeing Pacheco blow up on Thursday, but my guess is they have pretty much made up their minds.

Poor Kenny -- when he makes a trade that turns out bad, he's a moron. When he makes a trade that turns out good, he's lucky.

I'm not bashing Kenny at all. Just saying that sometimes luck is a factor and in this case was a big factor, along with minor league instruction.

Diaz vs Pacheco

i want to know who you think has the better potential.

this makes 2 trades last yr that may payoff.

and yeah, when a trade make good, kw was lucky. how many trades suck?

Hands down I go with Pacheco. He has just been lights out in AA this year and has electric stuff.

I've heard Diaz has electric stuff, and he's done much better since becoming a full time starter, but I have some doubts.

Diaz seems to have hit that wall called the Charlotte Knights. i guess it depends on whether Pacheco can go around the wall or climb over it quickly.

Actually, they are both very similar pitchers. Both still a little rough around the edges. pacheco still has problems with consistency. In the first inning of his last start, he threw 10 pitches, struck out the side and looked completely unhittable. In the second inning, he walked a guy and went deep into counts with two others because he missed with his pitches.

Diaz was very good, but would tend to disappear for an inning on occasion. Unfortunately, those often turn into innings where they give up 3 or 4 runs.

My first instinct is to give the edge to Pacheco, but i believe that is because he is fresher on my mind. Both have excellent stuff, yet have hurdles to jump.

Pacheco gets some proper minor league instruction, steps up and performs, and the Rangers get the benefit of it. I would love to have been a fly on the wall when they determined who the great eight would be. I just don't think that we would have to give up prospects this good for Carl Everett. Any regular poster here could come up with suitable alternatives that John Hart would have accepted. And why do we have to give them a month to scout our guys. We got out maneuvered again, IMO.

IT would of been a lot different if Jerry was willing to take on some salary. I think the big thing was this was probably one of the only options where the Sox could acquire the player without adding salary, something Reinsdorf wasn't willing to do.

If the Sox only had the Rangers pay half of his salary, they could of probably got it done for someone like Ginter and another prospect or so.

That's about the gist of it. KW is in way over his head.

I thought, when he makes a good trade, someone else is doing the trading, but when he makes a bad trade then its him in charge

We all know where I stand as I'm one of the few that pretty much backs KW :o

You will live to regret that grasshopper ;)

Just to clarify, I never meant for my comment to be anti-KW (which I am). Some trades are good, some are bad, some are lucky and some are unlucky.

This particular trade was lucky because not even the Sox believed pacheco would be very good, at least not this fast. Kirk Champion, the Sox Minor League Pitching Coordinator was on the Barons broadcast the other night and said as much. He openly said that Pacheco was the last pitcher to make the Barons this year and was slated to be the first one to go back down when needed.

He started the season in a mopup role in the bullpen, pitching only in games that were not close. He pitched well in several outings and after injuries changed the roles of many Barons pitchers, he got to pitch in a few closer games.

The need then arose for a spot starter and he got the nod. He has been in the rotation ever since.

I gotcha on that Rex. I definately think that deal was more luck. I think the Sox probably saw a guy that had a good arm and figured to take a shot on him.

Turns out the coaches and him have figured something out and now he's becoming a legit prospect.

If the guy was supposed to be that good, their is no way the Sox could of got him for Alomar Jr. I think everyone finds a diamond in the rough every once in a while. The key is to have the scouts to find them, and the coaches to develop them.

The one thing that you can say about kw is that he tries to get things to happen.

2001-David Wells

2002-Todd Ritchie

2003-Bartolo Colon

Earlier this month-Alomar and Everett

He doesn't just sit around and wait for his team to get better. He goes out and takes gambles and makes things interesting. Sometimes he wins, sometimes he loses, but he shows that he cares.

I'd love to see what Williams could do if he had a decent size payroll. I really think the Sox could have a fantastic team.

Oh ya, Yanks payroll is 180 million. For cripes sake that is freaking ridiculous. They are like two small market teams more then the New York Mets (2nd Highest). This is absolutely ridiculous. Its unfair for fans of every other team. Somehow they need to get a cap when the next bargaining agreement comes up.

He's lost (so far with Colon) on three out of the four you've mentioned. And it's too early to deliberate on whether R Alomar/Everett were good trades. Throw in Koch/Cotts for Foulke/Johnson/Valentine and you lose another one. Loaiza wasn't so much KW as it was JR inviting cheapies to ST for the 4th or 5th spot in the pitching rotation. KW also brought us K-layton and Mr. 1-Month Lofton. Olivo and Marte are bright spots though..... God knows, KW will be the first to remind you and the media of this fact.

KW supporters need to acknowledge that KW has hurt this team more than he has helped it in his brief almost 3 season tenure.

One really bad trade can hurt you for a long time. For example, last year the Todd Ritchie trade killed us. There was no way any team can contend with that type of performance from a guy in the rotation. Ritchie is gone this year, but the trade still hurts. If we had Kip and Fogg this year, we would be way ahead of the pack.

in addition i think adding a player who can hit, and help the team with the possiblitity of adding a comp pick is what made this trade
