July 23, 200322 yr I read this column and another one saying the Sox need a third baseman to replace Crede and a catcher, who could hit because Olivo's offense was killing the line up. They also said that the Sox needed the real Paul Konerko to show up. Well, I think PK is back and I am not sure that something as radical as getting another 3rd sacker is needed or another catcher, however, a good hitting catcher who can handle the staff might be a plus. But, who do we have to give up to accomplish that feat? The Sox were called an enigma and everytime they seem out of it they come back. Gammons says the Sox are in it and will be adding players not trading them.

Of course, if the Royals want to pick up a bat over an arm then that would be fine with me b/c we all know that good pitching beats good hitting(i.e. 2000- White Sox swept by Mariners). If they pick up another bat and end up making the playoffs, they still wont make it past the 1st round.

I only know that because my high school did the play. Now that that is out of the way, I don't know of any good hitting catchers who could handle our staffs out there that are available. Jason Kendall would be it, and I would love to have him and Giles, but we aren't gonna pay for that I don't think. There just aren't that many good hitting catchers out there. At third base I think Crede could get hot again like he did at the end of last year, and that we should stick with him. There's my two cents.
