August 7, 200916 yr QUOTE (GO CHI SOX! @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 04:05 PM) Wouldnt be surprised if the Tigers picked him up. Why would they? Porcello's turned it around these past few starts and they have Washburn now. Galarraga's probably better than Smoltz at this point.
August 7, 200916 yr QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 02:11 PM) Why would they? Porcello's turned it around these past few starts and they have Washburn now. Galarraga's probably better than Smoltz at this point. Drafted by the Tigers, from the Michigan area. He would be a fit for the bullpen, not as a starter. They really have no bullpen up in Detroit. Long awaited homecoming if you ask me.
August 7, 200916 yr Smoltz is finished. It's a shame he couldn't have just retired after last season.
August 7, 200916 yr I'd put him in the bullpen. He's been a successful closer before, and he still has good velocity.
August 8, 200916 yr I hope the Tigers pick him up. What is there anywhere to say he's not done? A 42 year old pitcher, who now cannot pitch multiple days, so no bullpen, all sorts of surgeries, and a guy who was pretty much lit up every time he took the mound. Its not like something is going to click pretty soon. He's done.
August 8, 200916 yr QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 10:03 AM) He can move to the bullpen. He's done it before. He wasn't 42 coming off surgery. I read where the bullpen is not an option for him at this point.
August 8, 200916 yr QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 03:23 PM) Smoltz is finished. It's a shame he couldn't have just retired after last season. Kind of a sad way to go out, if this is indeed the end. Hate the Ped Sox, but I've always liked Smoltzy.
