He's going to run, run run run run to the right to survive his primary, then run hard back center if he wins.

It'll be questionable whether people'll forget.

I guess I just don't get the strategy here.

The odds on favorite for the Republican primary is Kirk, who is a moderate Republican. (pretty much the only kind of Republican with a chance here statewide)

The reason why Kirk was so heavily recruited was because he can narrow the loss in the Big 6 (Cook, Kane, DuPage, Lake, Kendall and Will) while winning in the rural parts of the state. Maybe he loses 60-40 in the big 6 but wins 70-30 elsewhere. Thus creating a 51-49 win.

But then you shoot yourself in the foot, in the Big 6, by bringing in or having photo-ops with Palin, who isn't very popular up here.

I don't know. I don't get it either. My guess is the republican party is legitimately worried about a minority, but sizable faction of formerly reliable republican voters consistently going for a Hoffman-like candidate. And if 13% of their voters are consistently going that way, they obviously will have a hard time.

But, I don't care. If they think Sarah Palin is a legitimate tool for good instead of just a legitimate tool, then I'll just laugh and take the victory.

I don't get it. Palin fills stadiums with 15,000 people on a weekday. Republicans gush over the lady, sort of like Obama and the Democrats during this past election. Why? The MSM and the Democrats have tried like crazy to destroy Sarah Palin, yet she is still around and gaining traction. Why?

I can't stand Sarah Palin. Yet, she seems to be the annointed one. Why? I know you Dems would like nothing better then to see this dumbass nominated. I just don't get her popularity.

part of it, I think is the VP of the losing party, is always pinned as the next hope.

Happened with Joe Lieberman (remember when he was leading the polls in 2002) and John Edwards in 2006/07 before Hillary jumped in.

Meh. Not good enough of a reason for me.

Democrats hate her, which instantly makes a segment of the population fascinated with her. To them, there has to be a reason why. Its the forbidden fruit, or in this case the Forbidden Fruit Basketcase.
