Pagan over Rios in CF????

What source? And in this scenario what are the Sox trading for this 29 year old should be utility OF? Talk about buying high and aiming low.

So it was speculation based on previous speculation based on the fact that the Sox are looking for an outfielder? Which blog was this? MLBlogs is a series of something like 35 blogs.

But is the leadoff spot more important than the defensive upgrade of Rios in CF over whomever you sign to be your leadoff hitter (especially considering who is available)?

 

Rios being in the OF anywhere is going to be a big upgrade over what we had most of last year. I don't know much about Pagan in CF, but I have to guess that Pagan and Rios, is better than Dye and Wise (or whichever CF).

I guess the point I am trying to make (or the question I am asking), is that it appears that the impact Rios would make defensively in center field is larger than any offfensive player I can see us acquiring to play CF for his bat in Rios' stead (unless of course we traded for BJ Upton or something).

I am leaning towards the opinion we need a leadoff hitter adn regardless of potential, etc, we don't have anyone suited for that role on the roster at this time

As a general rule, posting rumors like this without even a whiff of where it came from (link, heard on radio from person X, inside team source, some dude on a message board, etc.), is a bad idea.

I think that is part of the thing Kenny is trying to balance. He has a lot of pieces that can do a lot of different things, and a few holes to fill in. The nice thing is unlike a team, like say Boston was, who has a very specific hole, the Sox can fill their holes in many different ways, and still achieve the same thing.

We are flexible with Rios being able to play either CF or RF. The important thing is to get a high quality bat, whatever the position may be and then fill Rios in whereever. I don't think you should look at it where he makes the most impact defensively. Without any more sticks, its not going to matter.
