Crypt's 2010 SS Rankings

Featured Replies

Disclaimer: These are my personal thoughts (vibes) mixed in with ADP of other sites + stats to achieve a personal rankings list. Feel free to comment/berate/whatever. smile.gif

Tier 1:

1. Hanley Ramirez - In a world of his own at ss position. In many leagues I would choose him number 1 over Pujols due to Pos Scarcity + production.

Tier 2:

2. Tulowitzki - Guy is nuts, young, solid lineup, great stadium, this is the guy I am aiming for in alot of the second rounds in my draft.

Tier 3:

3. Reyes - Heres were the rankings get interesting, crapshoot time. Reyes could be a steal or could be a dud at the ADP. I wouldn't mind him on my team over the other SS's, but at what cost? In an interview he said he's ready to go, take it FWIW.

4. Rollins - Close to Reyes, but in the decline and had a terrible first half last year. But still talented nonetheless.

5. Jeter - First AL guy here, getting older, pro player, his BA should come down, but in the lineup he is a solid addition to your fantasy squad.

Tier 4:

6/7. Bartlett/Zobrist - Him and Zobrist I have no idea what to expect. They obviously were stars last year, but what is going on this year? Bust? You make the call, but for last year they get ranked here IMO.

8. Stephen Drew - Very cheap this year in drafts, should rebound

9. Alexei Ramirez - Ups and Downs, hopefully he can stay more consistent and be the player he truly can be. If I miss out on the top SS's, I'll be aiming for the Cuban Missile.

10. Yunel Escobar - Does enough to be solid as your starting SS.

11. Elvis Andrus - Love this guy, I'll be aiming for him If all the other SS's are gone, big sleeper pick.

Tier 5:

12. Everth Cabrera - Great stealing potential, sleeper pick, I like the upside.

13. Alcides Escobar - Upside Upside Upside. Upside over below average hitters IMO!

14. Asdrubal Cabrera - A guy I like as a potential backup on my teams. Solid player, could be getting better. More Upside!

15. Tejada - Not a big fan here, Ehhh pick, but he posted good numbers last year, so take it FWIW.

16. Marco Scutaro - I don't expect much here.

17. Theriot - Ehhh, Solid option if you have nothing left.

18. Erick Aybar - I've seen alot of different rankings on him, could be a wild card.

The rest:

Aviles could produce, Orlando Cabrara, Ian Desmond could be a big time sleeper although I don't see it happening THIS year, Christian Guzman

Erick Aybar is a definite sleeper pick this year. He has the most to gain with Figgins going to Seattle, should hit at the top of the order and provide a decent amount of runs and steals. I'm aiming for him in every draft, should be higher up imo. Also, you forgot Beckham, believe he has eligibility at SS, that is the position I would personally draft Gordon at.

Appreciate the input

Beckham didn't start any games last year at Short, so he shouldn't have eligibility there this year in most setups.

Yup, I've been reading a bit about him - could be the ultimate one. Everybody is focused on Andrus, Alcides, Everth Cab. while aybar could be the one that makes the biggest splash.

Hmm, for some reason I remember him having SS eligibility last year. I'm not too sure how Yahoo or ESPN determines players eligibility at a position for the next season, but I hope Gordon retains his SS eligibility otherwise I'm not really interested in him, unless of course he does play 2B then I would nab him and wait it out.

SS is deep this year imo, I'd be happy with a number of the lower tier shortstops like Andrus, Alcides, Everth and Aybar. Seems like a great spot this year to add some steals to your roster.

I guess it depends on outlook and outcome. All the players you mentioned (those 4) are all very raw and young. Should be excellent, but will this be the year? I can almost guarantee one of them will be a major dud.

He should gain 2b as the season begins. So while yahoo may have him as only 3b eligible, after 5 games into the season he should become 2b eligible.

He had ss eligibility last year because that was his natural position coming out of college.

I believe in order to gain eligibility at a position, you need to have played 5 games at the position. Some leagues require 10 games.
