Top Five Stories - The Chicago White Sox

I don't know who the writer is (meaning who he roots for and all) but that seemed like one of the more impartial, statistically-based articles I have read. It was a pretty darn good analysis.

Interesting read, but I really could not figure out what he was trying to say about Alexei Ramirez. I think he's saying that you shouldn't split the difference on his two seasons, you should project high or project low, but then his last sentence in that paragraph confuses me:

"Place your bets on 2008; a .113 ISO in 2009 is too poor to be a fluke."

Huh?

I believe is is saying to place your bets on 2008 being the fluke year, as his ISO is 2009 was too poor to be a fluke. Basically saying he will have another bad year and 2008 was just a lucky season.

Oh. He's wrong, IMO. Successful rookie season, sophomore slump, successful career is not unheard of. In fact, it's how most good players develop. Meh.

"With that rotation, it is no stretch to say that as Quentin and Rios go so will the White Sox."

I think that is the most interesting thing in the article and lots of us here have been preaching that thought. If the Sox are going to do anything offensively, Q and Rios have to stay healthy and produce.

Yes - we know what we are going to get from Paulie/AJ, Pierre should at least be ok, its going to be on Q and Rios to get the job done.

I dont really get the impulse for everyone to say "It all depends on Rios!!"

He could hit .200 but if CQ gets back to his career highs, and Beckham improves, we're fine.

CQ could get hurt ...and then Teahen could return to his career high year and we'd be fine.

And so on. There's no question that Rios is a question mark but it doesnt all depend on him. That's a recipe for pressure-filled disaster if he's the type that's tempermental with media buzz etc
