March 21, 201016 yr ESPN White Sox closer Bobby Jenks expects to be ready for the season opener after an MRI on his right calf revealed no structural damage. Jenks, who has a 37.80 ERA in two spring outings, missed his turn to pitch on Saturday because of irritation. He is scheduled to pitch Monday against Kansas City and vowed to be ready for the opener against Cleveland on April 5. "No doubt about it," he said on Sunday. ... "Unless I go out there and do something really stupid, its only going to get better," he said. "It was a good report."
March 21, 201016 yr QUOTE (Marty34 @ Mar 21, 2010 -> 04:27 PM) I'd rather an MRI done on his velocity. Whats wrong his 92-93 mph fastball doesnt do it for you anymore.
March 21, 201016 yr I wonder if the pin in his elbow has loosened due to his violent curve and his velocity is down because of it...
March 21, 201016 yr QUOTE (joeynach @ Mar 21, 2010 -> 03:41 PM) Whats wrong his 92-93 mph fastball doesnt do it for you anymore. No. When his velocity returns to mid-90+ on a consistent basis I will stop worrying about the closer position. I do not think that is going to happen.

March 22, 201016 yr QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 21, 2010 -> 04:34 PM) I wonder if the pin in his elbow has loosened due to his violent curve and his velocity is down because of it... If this happened it would show up as elbow pain and difficulty with his breaking pitches more than the fastball. If anything he seems to be throwing more breaking pitches than before.
March 22, 201016 yr The concern is over a leg calf and he says he will be ready for opening day. But, the injury has bothered him since Sept and now he will be ready to go in two weeks? I am not sure I am following this logic. Lower velocity has been a concern with folks for a year or two now, but he still manages to do the job even though at times it seems Billy Koch is on the mound
