No suspensions from West incident

Featured Replies

It is being reported that none of Guillen, Buehrle, or West is being suspended, but all are being fined.

MLB couldn't justify suspending MB or Ozzie without suspending West, they probably didn't feel like suspending an umpire.

The whole thing has been so blown out of proportion. It's good to see that MLB didn't punish Buehrle, even though he said enough in the media to likely get a suspension. If they would have suspended West, that would have been inappropriate as well.

West got fined? Good, the fat f***ing idiot!

The day he's gone will be better for baseball

Sorry, I don't mean to sound childish but, though it's rare, I get worked up over things like this

Call any of the umps Elliot Ness. They are all Untouchable. West got fined for something off the field, not anything to do with his actions. As head of the umpire union, he's laughing about the decision. I'd like to see the fine amount for each.

If Maddon and Crawford only got fined and not suspended after their onfield tirade, it didn't look like Guillen or Buerhle would be suspended.

The size of the fine handed down by Major League Baseball upon White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen on Friday was only surpassed by the fine Guillen received for using a derogatory term in describing a one-time Chicago sports columnist in 2006.

"It's going to take me another three years to pay that. I'm going to need a loan," said Guillen with a laugh. "Hey, they have to do what they have to do. I guess they fined [umpire] Joe [West]. I know it wasn't $7,000. But it is what it is."

...

"I've already told Major League Baseball I'm going to pay in months. I'm not going to pay with one check. I got a family to take care of. And they're going to get $1,000 every month. Maybe I finish up and pay the fine around May [2011]. I guess you can't call people names with the media, but I don't regret it. I'll pay my fine and move on."
