He was sitting around tenth place at the half way point and decided he wanted to run from the front, made a move, opened up about a 100 yard lead and cruised to a :30 second victory. It was an opening race of only one mile, he clocked a 5:54, second place was in at 6:29. A few of the high school kids were egging him on, telling him someone was closing. Dammit if he didn't have another gear he was kicking it into. I had him back off and cruise, the main race is Oct 21 and I want him healthy for that. BigEdWalsh Posted September 1, 2010 Share Posted September 1, 2010 I had Newton for homeroom one year and I had him for gym once or twice. Nice guy but he was tough. My older brother was on the cross country team as a freshman and again as a sophomore. He and a guy named Jon Woods were like the number 1 and 2 runners on the team. My brother set several course records. He was really good. The summer between his sophomore and junior year my brother worked in my dad's drug store and missed a couple of summer practices.
