Two US Bound Packages Contained Explosives

Featured Replies

Via TPM -

President Obama, speaking this afternoon about the suspicious devices discovered on flights to the U.S., said the packages constituted a "credible terrorist threat" and that an "initial examination of those packages has determined that they do apparently contain explosive material."

Obama said that the packages, which were found last night on U.S.-bound flights in Dubai and near London, were addressed to "two places of Jewish worship in Chicago." He confirmed that the packages had originated in Yemen, and suggested that Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula might be responsible.

The packages prompted three UPS planes -- two in Philadelphia and one in Newark -- to be isolated and searched for suspicious packages today. Nothing was found.

The scare also lead to increased security precautions today, including the escorting of a passenger plane by U.S. fighter jets over the concern that it was carrying cargo from Yemen.

Woman believed to be tied to plot to send explosives to U.S. is arrested in Yemen, government official tells CNN.
Dammit, McCain would have stopped this a lot sooner.

I heard on MSNBC that this is all an evil tea party plot to dethrone Obamacus!

I heard on Fox that Obama mailed them himself so that he could give the press conference on Friday. Why else would they have been sent to Chicago!

Oh, I don't know if others missed this since the U.S. refused to confirm it, but a high-level official in France came forwards and said that one of the bombs was 17 minutes away from detonation when it was disarmed.

Big deal, most bombs aren't defused until seconds before detonating, don't you watch TV?
