I'm sitting at home tonight (because I have such the social life) and am flipping through the channels, when I notice a strange game on Comcast. It just happened to be the Kannapolis-Charleston game. So, of course I had to watch. I only caught a few innings, but came away with a few impressions.....

Andy Gonzalez - I really liked what little I saw in him. I saw two AB's. The first was a sharp single to center. The second was a groundout. He ran hard on both hits and rounded first very aggressively on the single. Thought about taking two, but retreated.

He made one really nice play on a line drive and doubled off a runner. He needs to develop strength however. I think his hitting will come in time but I don't see him progressing any faster than a level a year. We need to be patient with him, and not worry about his low average.

Brian Miller - I wasn't impressed. He looked very average. His breaking ball was flat and his motion was not smooth. He gave up 10 hits and walked 3 in less than 6 innings.

Pedro Lopez - Very slight build... Didn't seem to have any pop. Didn't hit the ball real hard...

Thomas Brice - Has a very nice swing and a good body... Has no power though....

Enough rambling.....

Pedro Lopez - Very slight build... Didn't seem to have any pop.  Didn't hit the ball real hard...

Thomas Brice - Has a very nice swing and a good body...  Has no power though....

rex, when it comes to the prospects i learned never to go against you and mnf.

lopez was suppose to be our future 2b, how did he play in the field.

ref to ag the ss, i am still glad that he still might be a prospect. how tall did he look

brice is the one i am concerned about. i heard that he had a lot

of power. a sweet swing via greg walker or baines. could brice did not have a good

game.

Lopez will hit better as he gets stronger, he gets his bat on the ball, that is what I like. When he gets stronger maybe he can add to average and get some RBIs.

Brice will add power too, he has not played much baseball in his life, again, he gets his bat on the ball. I would rather have guys like this than guys like the prospect Dopirik for the Cubs, who hits .250, has homers but Ks 1/3 of the time. That sucks. One reason I like Rogo too, tho I do not think he will make it.

Lopez didn't have any balls h it to him that I can recall so can't s ay how he looked defensively. Both he and Andy Gonz. have room to grow and will get stronger and fill out. Just understand that without that physical maturity, it may take them longer to get there. Don't expect a breakout season where they are deemed "Major League Ready" anytime soon. Patience is the key here.

Brice had a nice swing. They said he has no HR's on the season (no, I didn't check to confirm), hence the no power comment. A good body and a nice swing are things you can build on. He is also a guy that won't go blazing through the Minor League system, but that doesn't mean he can't become a solid player down the road.

I agree, Nanita has done everything necessary to get himself noticed. He is a bit old for that league, so I hope he can keep it up when he moves to the next level.

Anyone notice Sweeney hasn't played in a couple of nights again. Knee must still be bothering him.

Pedro Lopez - Very slight build... Didn't seem to have any pop.  Didn't hit the ball real hard...

Thomas Brice - Has a very nice swing and a good body...  Has no power though....

rex, when it comes to the prospects i learned never to go against you and mnf.

lopez was suppose to be our future 2b, how did he play in the field.

ref to ag the ss, i am still glad that he still might be a prospect. how tall did he look

brice is the one i am concerned about. i heard that he had a lot

of power. a sweet swing via greg walker or baines. could brice did not have a good

game.

Lopez was a former 2B moved to SS because of Gonzalez, but I really think Lopez is a better defender. He is very fast, and has some very soft hands.

Gonzo has been a big disappointment this year, but I do like the fact that he is still drawing walks.

Brice can absolutely murder the lowball, mainly because he played cricket in Australia. He has no power, but a very nice stroke from the left side. Brice should develop some power, though, probably 10-15.

Anyone notice Sweeney hasn't played in a couple of nights again.  Knee must still be bothering him.

Yea, I saw he hasn't been playing. And, what do you mean his knee must be bothering him? Is that where he was hit by a pitch earlier this year?

The guy who is quietly having a good year is Tim Hummel

got his average up to .292 with a .361 obp. 35 extra base hits, 8 steals. can play three infield positions.

he won't be an all-star, but he's got value.

Hummel is one of those guys I can't wait to see. He doesn't do anything fancy but is solid at anything.

I saw a lot of Hummel in spring training the first week. since Jose was resting from a lot of winter ball. He did not look like much, a bit overmatched at plate, did not look bad at 3B, cannot start at SS for us, but could be a Graffy type, could end up a better hitter tho. He has good plate sense and patience.

I saw Brice up close, they really like him, he is big enuf to fill out with power. He really has a nice stroke and just glad he is making steady contact.

Mn, was Brice a lot more powerful in low-ball situations? He was a former cricket player, and I know he can hit the low ball very well.
