May 29, 201213 yr Ball plant?? Ok. Now I get it since I actually read the article. Good read. Edited May 29, 201213 yr by BigEdWalsh
May 29, 201213 yr Author QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ May 29, 2012 -> 01:25 PM) Ball plant?? Davis designed the new park to be in harmony with its surroundings. The red brick archways mimicked the aesthetic of nearby factories and churches. The park had such an industrial feel that contemporary writers commonly referred to it as a baseball “plant,” as in: "the greatest ball plant in the world.” Actually, it’s much more likely that “ball plant” was just some typically nutty early-twentieth-century speak.
May 29, 201213 yr QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 29, 2012 -> 02:56 PM) I regret never seeing a game there. How can you regret something that is impossible for you to have done?
May 29, 201213 yr QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ May 29, 2012 -> 05:19 PM) How can you regret something that is impossible for you to have done? I could have been born a year early. But I do wish I could have seen one game there, it's basically a mythical place to me. Edited May 29, 201213 yr by Quinarvy
May 29, 201213 yr The only game I saw at Old Comiskey made me into a Sox fan. I wasn't into baseball too much before that, and had seen a few Cubs games with my parents and school. Once I saw the Sox game I was hooked.

A lifetime of memories at "Sox Park". There was nothing better than walking "up the steps" from behind home plate and seeing that beautiful green grass under the lights. I love the new park (even though it faces in the wrong direction) but nothing will ever replace the fun times of growing up in the original Sox Park.

May 30, 201213 yr QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 29, 2012 -> 02:56 PM) I regret never seeing a game there. I lived on 26th and Wallace for a few years before moving South. I regret not seeing enough games there. But yeah, it was a great, great place to see a ballgame or two.
