hamels is good. but $144M, as reported here, is record BY FAR for SP yet to win > 15 games. @Ken_Rosenthal 1st said close

There had never been a team in history with two $20-M-a-year starters until the 2012 Phillies. Now they have three $20M-a-year starters!

Cole Hamels' six-year, $144 million deal w #Phillies includes 7th-year, vesting optiion making total package worth in excess of $160 million

#phillies offered $80M in late '11 to hamels, then made new offer a week ago. so in approx 10 months, hamels made $64M

So what are they paying their rotation now? 400 mil?

Hamels extension goes through 2018 and includes a club/vesting option for 2019. Limited no-trade provision. #Phillies

If Hamels fails to reach necessary innings for his 2019 option to vest, the #Phillies have club option to bring him back at reduced salary.

So is Lee or Halladay going to get dealt? I don't expect the Phils to keep all 3. They are in a financial mess, with 96M going to 4 guys. Barring them maintaining just an exorbitant payroll, someone will have to go.

I could see them staying put with all 3. They still sell out the ballpark constantly and they seem to think they have another WS run in this team, despite this year's performance. If Halladay gets hurt again, his 2014 option won't vest anyway.
