March 22, 201313 yr Don't know if this has been discusses by YOU already but, White Sox Sign Indy Speedster Darian Sandford We do need someone to pinch run and steal a base. While it is true that no one on the prospective 25 man roster is really a speedster there is just no available roster spot for a guy like this.
March 22, 201313 yr QUOTE (southside_hitman @ Mar 22, 2013 -> 03:27 PM) Don't know if this has been discusses by YOU already but, White Sox Sign Indy Speedster Darian Sandford We do need someone to pinch run and steal a base. While it is true that no one on the prospective 25 man roster is really a speedster there is just no available roster spot for a guy like this. Guys are in the Indy Leagues for a reason. Very very rare that they make contributions to major league clubs. Also had .660 OPS in the Indy Leagues last year. So, he probably sucks. Edited March 22, 201313 yr by maggsmaggs
March 22, 201313 yr He was a bad singles hitter in an independent league. He's going to be a bad singles hitter in the minors, and he'd be an even worse player in the majors. We are talking "may as well not swing a bat" bad. Maybe he could be Herb Washington, but I have very strong doubts.
March 22, 201313 yr The last time we had a player like that on the major league roster was Rodney McCray.
March 23, 201313 yr I interned for the So Ill Miners this past summer and got to watch Darian Sandford on a daily basis. No power whatsoever. His game is pretty much based on slap hitting to left every AB, hoping for a single and stealing his way to third. He has wheels, that's for sure, but he's also pretty arrogant. He was traded mid season because he still attempted to steal bases even when given the stop sign by the manager. Also, has a noodle arm, he will be fine at Kanny.
