Honel left the Hogs game after 2 2/3 innings. Dunno what happened. Through 2 2/3 he gave up two hits and struck out six.

Warthogs' starter, Kris Honel, was on a 50 pitch, pitch count and only tossed 2 2/3 innings. Honel struck out six and issued two hits.

From the Warthogs website. So he didn't get injured.

I'm guessing they are setting their rotation for the playoffs.

With that fastball and knuckle curveball that I think he's got, he should join a nice rotation by 2005. If we don't resign Colon, then maybe give him a look at the 5th starters job depending on how he progresses but I still think he's needs another year at AAA level. Who knows, he might do a Rich Harden and force KW and Manuel to promote him.

He's only had one start above A. He'll be in AA next year, much to Rex's delight. Possible 2004 September callup.

Two starts in AA, but your point is the same. Honel needs to be in AA next year and could move to AAA or the Majors with a big year, but I think he will go step by step.

I have only seen him pitch once, but I have doubts about his fastball. Just not sure it will be enough to make his a top level starter in the Majors. Time will tell...

honel is just a baby, developmentally.

no need to rush him.

give him at least a whole season in AA. If he had attended college, he'd only be heading into his junior year and becoming eligible for the draft.

Better to let him refine his pitches, learn how to pitch both sides of the plate and keep his confidence high.

Sox have other options. Rauch has pitched well enough the last 6 weeks that he at least deserves a look.

We all know how tough it is for any pitcher to come in and succeed immediately.

Actually, the most encouraging stat line I saw last night was that Corwin Malone appeared to pitch a decent 5-inning stint for Birmingham.

I agree that Honel needs to go step-by-step.

Actually, I agree with your whole post. LOL

Thank god. I always get scared when I hear anything about a Sox pitching prospect getting injured.

Glad to hear Corwin is healing well. He is my favirote prospect, From what i have heard though, he doesn't have a change-up that could take him to the big leagues permanently.
