August 25, 201312 yr Due to some changes where I work, a group in my department have joined together and voted to unionize. I am neither pro nor anti union, but in this case, I really have no desire to join in on this cause. I feel it's an over reaction to the situation. Franky while I am not happy with the changes, I have no problem doing what I am doing. I think some people are just upset they are being moved out of "comfortable" positions. In the state of IL, do I have the right to reject being in the union? I know IL is not a "Right to Work" state, but when I started this position, the union did not exist. It strikes me as wrong that I might be forced to join a union formed AFTER I was already hired. Any advice would be appreciated. Edited August 25, 201312 yr by Athomeboy_2000
August 25, 201312 yr You have the right not to join. However, you will almost certainly be required to pay shop fees to the union because they are negotiating on your behalf. Also, I am not licensed in IL. This is not legal advice. Edited August 25, 201312 yr by G&T
