August 27, 200322 yr This is just a thought based on figures I saw thrown about here and a few other sites...Obviously, I don't know what the market will command for Bartolo next year and/or what he might be willing to sign for before free agency begins. But here goes: If Colon would sign for $8-9 mill per for three years...I'd make the deal tomorrow if I thought he was healthy at the end of the season. He eats innings and you gotta think JR and Eddie are likely to make a run for next season, not just stop with a run at the post season this year... I can't make a case for him at $12 mill or more per...but $8-9? I wouldn't blink. We're in it to win it! Forkit!

We could offer him a 3-year, $42 mill contract, and the Yanks would one-up us and offer him another mill per year. Ponson's career year (this year) isnt much better than Bart's pretty bad year (for him) Colon should get more than Ponson.

A proven veteran like Colon is not going to sign a contract laden with incentives. Why should he? A team like the Yankees is going to give him all the money he wants and it will be guaranteed money -- no incentives. The Sox are going to have to ante up if we want to keep him, and I hope we do so.

I wouldn't guarantee it. Ya, the Yanks will spend money, but I don't see them going after Colon. Actually, if things don't go right for the Yanks...you could really see a complete overhaul.

With Clemens and Wells likely to be gone in '04 (either via retirement or signing elsewhere), the Yankees are going to have lots of money and a couple of holes in their rotation. They might overhaul the team, but they're still going to have a huge payroll, and I'd be willing to bet Colon will be in the top 3 of targets they will have in the off-season.
August 28, 200322 yr When he pitches well, he pitches great. Just saw the White Sox and Yankees Highlights on Baseball Tongight and they were analysing Colon's pitching. Against Jason Giambi he had three pitches 98, 98 and then 99 to strike him out. If he keeps throwing fastballs like he did tonight, he will win a lot of games with this run support that we're now getting. Even Robbie hit a home run.

All the Colon Bashers were licking their chops when he served up that fatty early in the game, but he was pretty dominant after that. This guy can play & I say keep him around.

That seems to be the attitude he has. Or maybe it's just me. I'm not sure. I just look at 2002 and then all his other years and wonder "WTF?", you know? He has an incredibly great year in 2002, but all his other years are nothing compared to that. Don't get me wrong.....Colon is a great pitcher. I just have to wonder.

With that new avatar...its AWESOME. And I love the fact that your complimenting Wright. He's another one of those arms I love. He's done good out of the pen and from everything I've heard, he's got a great attitude and just wants to help the Sox, whether he's doing it at the major league level or working on getting back to the show at the minor league level. His future may be in the pen with us, but either way I think he's got a promising career ahead of him and I feel the same way about Cotts, although I still need to see him more.
August 28, 200322 yr To me, Wright is nasty in the pen...don't let the hitters see him more than once, and he could be lethal. Cotts gets the walks down, we are in a good position. Este, Buehrle, Garland and Cotts...with 1 spot open IF, and I say IF, Colon can stay motivated and not sign with the Spankees
