August 28, 200322 yr Last time Frank was "in the mix" Giambi got a firecracker up his ass and had a monster August and September and got the nod.. If Frank continues on this tear.. maybe he's got a shot over Itchy..? Especially if Seattle misses the playoff exit ramp (wishful thinking, I know)..? Thoughts..?

He's having a good year, but not MVP-esque. Plus, I think him and Bret Boone would split the votes. I say that it's Frank's award for the taking. It would be the 2nd time that he deserved the MVP after not making the AS team that year.
August 28, 200322 yr They're not going to give an MVP award to a .260 hitter. Especially a guy few people like. For sure not if he's playing on a non-playoff team(still a possibility)

For sure not if he's playing on a non-playoff team(still a possibility) Presumably if Frank stays hot, he won't be a .260 hitter. He's up to .268 now, and the way he's going, .280 is attainable. And like Tejada and Giambi proved in 2002 and 2000, respectively, the voters don't remember what happened at the beginning of the year -- they only remember what happened in August and September. And, so far, Frank has been the hottest player down the stretch. But, you're right, if the Sox miss the playoffs, Frank has NO chance.

Hasn't a lot of Ichiro's "shine" grown dull? I mean sure, he's having a solid season, but the newness just isn't there anymore. And like I said in a diff post, he's got Boone as a teammate, so that will probably take some votes away from him. Although, I guess you could say the same about Frank and Magglio. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Either way, as long as the Sox win the Central, I'll be happy.

Franks best chance, if he stays this hot, is for Boston to get the wild card, and Oakland to stay hot and finish ahead of the M's, leaving them out of the playoffs. Also if Boone and Ichiro split some votes that will help. And really with Maggs numbers, I don't think he is a top flight MVP canditate. I think there are a bunch of guys I would pick before Ordonez.

Frank was snubbed for the All Star game in 2000, snubbed for the MVP, snubbed 3 times this season for the All Star game in his own park. Now that he decided to swing for the fences the National Media is praising him. It's immediate gratification. And Frank was right, he's done the right thing. That said I think he needs to hit .300 to be MVP. He could reach 50 homers, but 45 is more likely, RBIs will exceed 100, and his OBP will lead the team. I think Thomas would settle for a World Series Ring over the MVP anyway.

August 28, 200322 yr A World Series ring would make Frank a first ballot HOFer no matter what he does for the rest of his career, IMO.

August 28, 200322 yr Frank didn't get the MVP in 2000 when he deserved it. So he probably has no chance to win it this year unless,as was stated above,he hit 50 homers and hit over .300. That would be a long shot. If he did win it, I'd would like to see Bruce Levine hand him the hardware.
August 28, 200322 yr at this moment, I don't think anyone is the AL MVP. Kind of like a Heisman year when no one deserves it but they got to give to someone. I would love to see Frank go on a tear and carry the team to an easy division championship and get the MVP. I'd prefer 4 wins in the world series. I'd really prefer to win a $280,000,000 power ball game.
August 28, 200322 yr Ichiro is still hitting .327-11-49 which is stellar for a leadoff hitter, and he's already scored 95 runs and stolen 30 bases. Plus, defensively he's the best right fielder in baseball. I think he's a legit candidate.
