New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter announces on Facebook that the 2014 season will be his last.

"The 2014 season will be my last year playing professional baseball," the Yankees captain said in a 15-paragraph note on the social media site.

However, the Yankees say they have not yet been informed, according to a source.

Great. Now we get to have another love fest all year long like last year for Mariano. Personally I've never been a fan of Jeter. Probably would have liked him okay if he didn't play for the Yankees, but being a Yankee caused everything he ever did to be the greatest even if it wasn't.

So...develop the middle infield prospects we have this year and we have a trade destination for Alexei. Possibly even midseason if Jetes gets hurt.

In those terms, the Yankees have always made a lot of sense. Also worth mentioning they tend to block their prospects.
