August 29, 200322 yr These are the ESPN.com reviews of the baseball parks so far, and surprisingly SoxPark is standing up better than I thought. It even came in ahead of (gasp) Yankee Stadium. Pac Bell (Giants): 93 Camden Yards (Orioles): 92 Coors Field (Rockies): 85 Edison Field (Angels): 84 Kauffman Stadium (Royals): 84 Wrigley Field (Cubs): 84 Dodger Stadium (Dodgers): 82.5 Comerica Park (Tigers): 82 Fenway Park (Red Sox): 81.5 Safeco Field (Mariners): 81.5 Jacobs Field (Indians): 81 Turner Field (Braves): 81 Miller Park (Brewers): 78.5 Busch Stadium (Cardinals): 78 Pro Player Stadium (Marlins): 78 U.S. Cellular Field (White Sox): 74 Yankee Stadium (Yankees): 73.5 Bank One Ballpark (D-Backs): 72 SkyDome (Blue Jays): 67 Metrodome (Twins): 66.25 Network Associates (A's): 59 Qualcomm Stadium (Padres): 58 Tropicana Field (Devil Rays): 56 Veterans Stadium (Phillies): 53.5 Olympic Stadium (Expos): 49
August 29, 200322 yr I was pretty suprised about it too. You gotta like that guy for just throwing away all the reputations of the parks and just experiencing it for himself and deciding for himself.
August 29, 200322 yr Yankee stadium is pretty overrated in general. It really wasn't what i expected when i was there this spring, not even close
August 29, 200322 yr Some comments... Now I am not one of those people that have traveled the country going to all the stadiums, but just got back from Denver. Coors field is nice...The best thing is that they dug down so you walk off the street onto the main concourse. No escalators required... 2nd...How The cell scored lower the Coors on seats and food is beyond me. We had 3rd base side box seats 21st row up (Beyond 3rd base about halfway to the outfield wall). They cost $31 per ticket. At the Cell you pay $29 for these tickets(And other then club seats $29 is the most expensive seat in the Cell) Close to the infield is more expensive at Coors. The seats are very narrow (airplane seats) so my right arm was kept behind the seat the whole game. Upper deck looks as steep as the Cell. Food costs were nuts...Hot Dog cost $6.25 and a beer was $4.75. Yet Coors gets the following scores: Ticket Price/Availability/location scores 3 and the Cell gets 1.5 Hot Dogs scores 5 for both although Best Kosher at the Cell is about $2 less and better tasting Seat Comfort both score 4 Wrigley is still a dump in my mind (I grew up on the North Side in Rogers Park and took the L to both Comiskey and Wrigley all summer as a kid)... Ticket Price/Availabilty/location gets this a 4...Amazing with all the obstructed view (Not seats directly behind the polls...If you are behind a poll period some part of the park is blocked...Not to mention the upper deck blocks the view of where fly balls go. Not to mention how much more expensive tickets cost at Wrigley. Funny no mention how the concourse at Wrigley always smells like piss.
August 29, 200322 yr Pro Player Stadium is ahead of the Cell! WTF is that s***! Pro Player is the home of the frickin' Dolphins and Marlins. Thats is a hideous ballpark! Also, BankOne Ballpark in Arizona is an underrated park. That stadium is beautiful. Kauffman Stadium is also WAAAAY overrated. There arent even any bkeacher seats! Just a bunch of rocks with watter falling down them! Last but not least, Wrigley Field is the biggest urinal, I mean dump, in the bigs!
August 29, 200322 yr Yankee stadium is pretty overrated in general. It really wasn't what i expected when i was there this spring, not even close Its a dump. If any team but the Yankees, with their history, played there, it would be right near the bottom in the rankings.
August 29, 200322 yr Author Busch stadium is WAYYY overrated IMO also. It sucks, it is just a cookie cutter, with really bad food, and worse beer.
August 29, 200322 yr I thought Comiskey got a fair rating overall. It lost points due to the upper deck, and the actual location of the ball park.
August 29, 200322 yr Also lost points on Ticket prices Lost points on pre/post restaurant scene...It amazes me that people have no idea how close to Chinatown the Cell is. Nearly everytime we head to a game we either have dinner before a night game in China town or after a day game.
