May 8, 201411 yr I looked at the Sox rankings in some pitching categories on April 29, and the changes in the last week or so are pretty crazy in some areas. Overall ERA now 4.49 now ranked 26th in MLB, was 28th Starter ERA now 4.96, 28th, was 28th Reliever ERA now 3.71, 14th, was 26th K's now 232, 28th, was 28th BB's now 152, 30th, was 30th (closest is TOR at 135) Hits now 305, 23rd, was 28th WP now 23, 30th, was 29th HR against now 24, 4th, was 6th
May 8, 201411 yr The bullpen has been lights out over the past 2+ weeks. I think on the ESPN broadcast last night they said that they were under a 1.50 ERA over the last 18 games or something like that.
May 8, 201411 yr QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 8, 2014 -> 10:35 AM) So the bullpen isn't too bad, but the starters still suck. We didn't have 5 good starters to begin the season and with failure by some who were sent down. Our bullpen has been coming into the game in the 3rd inning not the sixth. What is the stat for quality starts by our staff and total amount of inning pitched compared to other teams with more quality starts. We're doing damn good with the relievers pitching so much of the game.
May 8, 201411 yr If Jones ever gets an out, that number is gonna go up a bit Team ERA is based on the total innings pitched by the team. Jones getting an out doesn't move the team ERA any more or any less than any other pitcher getting an out. Jones getting an out moves HIS ERA much more than any other pitcher getting an out.
May 8, 201411 yr Sox starters are averaging 5.6 (almost 5 2/3) innings per start. They need to get that over 6 in a hurry, and even better when Sale gets back. It would be great if Sale comes back and doesn't miss any more time. Sale, Quintana, Johnson, Danks, and Carroll/Noesi would be an above average rotation, provided they make all of their starts. And if the bullpen doesn't go backwards too much, this team can win games and potentially get on a run. It's all about health with this team.
