September 9, 200322 yr I don't know how anybody can get on Pena. He's kept his team in the race all year long despite having 20 gms below .500 talent... Their offense definitely isn't a 20 games below .500 offense so I wouldn't say that Pena has done as good as some say.

Nobody expected the Royals to be anything close to what they have been, and with all the injuries they've had to the pitching staff, he kept them hanging in there. They are fading now, and it will really be difficult for them to overtake both Sox and Minni. But, still, so much more than was expected.
September 9, 200322 yr Overall, they have a pretty crappy team. 70 win type team. He has done a wonderful job. IMO without a doubt Pena is the manager of the year in all of baseball. Sad to say it but I would have to say Baker wins it in the NL.
