ESPN's World Series Prediction

Featured Replies

ESPN just ran a piece on Sportscenter where they eliminated all of the contending teams using useless statics.

Like no team has ever one the WS while finishing last in the league in runs scored. = bye-bye LA Dodgers.

They picked a World Series of SF vs Oak with SF winning.

The White Sox were eliminated because no team has won a WS without a closer having 13 saves. (since that statwas kept) I think Gordon will reach that plateau.

Woo-Hoo :headbang World Series Champs :headbang

Of course ESPN would pick SF to win. It seems like the emotional pick to make with SF losing game 7 of last years WS and Barry Bonds losing his dad. (But oddly the emotional pick was wrong in 2001. Yankees lost the WS following 9/11, and I thought for sure the baseball gods would not allow anything else.) Not taking anything away from their team, but I don't think they'll win the World Series.

If I put down any other team (other then the Sox) to win the WS I would guess Atlanta. They normally choke in playoffs but I just have more faith in them this year. Offense, normally not well-spoken of, is very solid for this years Atlanta team. Pitching and defense were always superb so it appears they have all the pieces.

Stupid ass statistics like that that do NOT back why teams will not get to the World Series absolutely piss me off to no end. I believe Sportscenter said that the Reds would win the World Series because a s***load of stats were the same as the Angels were last year....we all know how that worked out.

I thought the Cards were gonna win it last year as an emotional win....they lost in the NLCS. So much for that.

I probably should have posted this all in green. Even ESPN discounted it, saying SF would win it "until we find some statistic that says they won't"

How about no team with Felipe Alou as manager has never gone to the playoffs, and has most certainly never won the World Series?

Obviously thats a stupid poll, but if Flash doesnt get 13 saves by the end of the season, we are in trouble

I guess winning games by more than 4 would be a problem . . .

:D
