  1. you know what I mean HSC. fact is Kimm has been around the game and from what we know doesn't have a bad rap of any sort. what is Manuel going to base it on? are they going to interview people and have them take a test in which they stand at third and wave and stop guys who are rounding? no, they know a guy, feel confident in him and that is all. you aren't going to pick a guy you know nothing about because a coach and a manager have to have good communication too. NOW, I will agree with you guys in arguements that deal with Kenny Williams picking friends. that is wrong because he has no direct contact on teh field during games, it is the manager who runs things. but in this case, I gotta side against all of ya. also, I agree with Karko, backman could serve better use with our minor league players as opposed to up here as a coach, but once again. as far as him bolting. I don't think that changes anything. in fact, him being up here as a third base coach will make him a canidate on more teams list than anything else.
  2. hate to break it to you guys, but that is how everything works. guys pick who they know. obviously Kimm has been around baseball for a while in a variety of roles, so he has to know baseball. not like they are picking guys who they hung out with at bars.
  3. no offense to you guys, but your comments on inane. just because he managed the cubs, he is automatically a bust out? you guys really have to get off your hatred of the Cubs. who knows if he's gonna be a good thirdbase coach or not. there isn't much proof to that he was a bad manager, he was managing the cubs after all. take a wait and see on this one please.

  5. Thome is another story. the guy is a great hitter whose left handed bat would do wonders in the lineup. but you are then talking about 10 or so million a year, a bit too much considering we'll only have 10 mil to spend at the most.
  6. for those of you who would prefer to have one set DH and that DH not being Frank Thomas, what about Martinez? it doesn't look like he is going to resign with the Mariners, thus making him a free agent. could be a great pickup. he's been one of the best hitters of all time and could help out the other guys on the team. I for one think it would be cool to have Martinez and Ordonez batting back-to-back, there are so similar in styles. of course I would prefer us to have no DH and just rotate the other guys, but if we were to get a permanent DH outside of Thomas, I would definetly pay 4-5 mil a year for him.
  7. HSC, all I can say is that all you sox fans who still believe Williams has killed the Sox and is utter moron, you guys really have to step back and rethink. the 2000 team wasn't really that good. nobody thought we would win 95 games, we won them on luck. everything went out way that year. then came 2001 and injuries and a lot of crap hurt us. same for 2002. and as much as you guys want to think, Williams hasn't made that many mistakes. he's made just as many good moves as bad. I hate it how people put to blame of something on one person. it is soo much more than that. williams was put in a bad situation and hasn't had anything go his way. once again, this doesn't mean I'm a williams fan, I'm just a realist who isn't afraid to look at things from another angle. and another thing, as bad as Williams is, I think we have a better chance at going to the world series with him than anyone else. why? williams can do something no other GM would be able to do, get JR to spend money. as stupid as he may be, he's been able to open JR's pockets (even if a little), something Schueler was never able to do. will we win it? who knows, but I still feel confident than when we are close we'll go for it all as opposed to standing pat. fact is, we are no worse than where we were in 2000, so although Williams hasn't taken us to next level on paper, he hasn't hurt this organization. just my opinion.
  8. but that is America. if someone live in this country and honestly believe people need to sympahize for them and give them something, they should leave. like I said, there are PLENTY of people who come here with little to no money and make it. these are people with no family here, can't speak the language, no education, yet they can make it, why can't the people who were here? my parents came here from italy with little money. they busted their ass, saved their money and are now in good financial shape. they couldn't even speak english, yet they made it. also, we have public school don't we? sure the education isn't great, but if you want to improve your life do good within the educational system and go out and a get job. instead people drop out and live off the streets then go complain about stuff. what you are saying is that Bill Gates should be forced to supply money that HE EARNED AND WORKED for to others who didn't? so basically its "f*** up if you want, we'll always be there for you". I believe some people are in bad situations and deserve help, but there are MANY who brought that upon themselves. and you know what, all these people who complain about the government and the rich people, those are the same people who if for some reason they get rich, they'll act the same damn way. that is just my opinion.
  9. they aren't planning on rushing Olivo. he's gonna be battling with paul and johnson. either way, you'll see a platoon.
  10. oh yeah, forgot to post the story. http://www.soxnet.net/snreport/357-11.5.html
  11. I'm kinda lost on this topic cause it seems to date back a good length, but I'll say this. I for one hate the educational system for the main reason jason said. there are too many bulls*** classes and too many teachers who are there because they know the subject rather than know how to teach it. I've been going to school since I was 6 years old and I have to say I've had 5-6 good teachers. most of them came in the two years I've been in college. I've learned more about history in the past two semesters with somewhat decent teachers than my whole grammar and high school education. the problem I believe is too many teachers go from a book. take history for instance. if you read a history book you get in school, you only grasp very little of the story and they focus too much on date, people, and memorizing rather than understanding why a particular thing happened and trying to look at things from all angles. back to the classes. I still don't understand why soo much attention is given to classes like Science. as jason said, put more classes that deal with the real world. instead of using books that were written 40 years ago and published based on what was written in there is appropriate, get them involved in everyday scenario's. anyone who lives in chicago knows about the recent publications of the "Red Eye" and "Red Streak". they have to make magazines like this to try to lure the generation of today. I think it is quite said how they have to chop a story in half and put a BIG OLD font on it to get people to read it. I find it sad that they have to word it so that the current generation will grasp it. I find it really funny how they actually have to put a map of CANADA on it and identify where it is at. I also find it funny that SOOO many people show little interest with the situation in Iraq, the economy, and political situations. I also find it funny that there are soo many complainers out there. it seems like everywhere I look you got people crying, saying America this and America that, and continually complaining how "bad" this country is. they fail to realize that this is the only damn country in the world who will allow to even say such things. I hate how people cry, but don't vote. and there reason is because "my vote won't make a difference". how people argue a topic, but make no effort to improve teh situation. I also hate how many complain about the lack of opportunity and how the "rich" people keep them down. people from all over the damn world come here because of the opportunity to succeed, why can't the citizens in our own damn country accept that. why do we have so many people that don't understand that America is a country where you have to fend for yourselfs and can't depend on the person next to you. the rich didn't get rich based on luck, but because they had an idea and busted their ass. I got myself worked up now, I can even think straight. in short, America is the greatest country out there. if you see a problem, go fix it instead of b****ing.
  12. plus, how much will the yankees be asking in return? the yanks never get ripped on a deal unless they are giving up youth to get the big name guy. I'm sure a deal like this would have us giving up a Garland, Lee, and someone else. I'd rather take my chances with Olivo and use that money towards a pitcher.
  13. well, thing is do the Sox want to invest money on another offensive player? I don't think there is any doubt we need a starting pitcher. what would be the point in getting a Posado and not getting that front line pitcher? however, Posado would give us a strong catcher and lefthanded bat. only problem would be where would you bat him. you can't possibly bat him after Konerko. if so, we'll be seeing a TON of triple plays with them two running. one guy the sox should consider is Lieber. If he recovers, he can be a quality pitcher for us.
  14. my fault matt, I should've of caught that while editing. sorry, it is fixed now.
  15. oh, my bad then. so a sandwich pick I suppose?
  16. no, he's a free agent, no compensation. the whole point to this contract was to keep Thomas for cheap if he starts to play bad, or lose Thomas if he starts to play bad. If Thomas leaves, I'll be a little upset, but the only reason he'll leave is if it's for 6-7 mil a year for 3-4 years. anything less and Thomas would be better of staying here for 3-5 million a year with the 40-45 mil coming later.
  17. yeah, I haven't been able to keep up with much the past couple days so I found out the news just a short while ago.
  18. did it jas, feeling a lot better today. still sick, but better.
  19. I agree, it solidifies their outifield. they have three guys who can play center, have good speed and arms. I don't think Piniella can do anything for the D-Rays personally. I respect him for going there though cause that is a challenge and can really seperate the good managers from the Joe Torre's. of course, the D-rays don't have to win 90 games or so, but if they finish with 75-80 wins this coming season, kudos to him. I wonder how much say he's gonna have within the organization? usually bad organizations stay away from proven winning coaches if they are content on losing. perhaps the D-rays are looking to be a real baseball team now. one thing is for sure. with Yanks pitching staff getting old, Twins players being up for contracts, the A's and M's losing two quality managers, the AL seems to be wide open next season. The A's may not even compete. they only got 30,000 or so for the playoffs and their obvious payroll constraints may lead to more deals. if the Sox were smart, they'd really take advantage of this and jump on top while the competition is diminishing.

not to get on your or anything mike, but I just dont get why so many people think that way yet still support the team. I mean if you think the owner is a cheap and he never wants to win a title, and coincidentaly never will (which MANY sox fans truly believe, why support them? I don't mean not like the Sox, but boycot them till he sells the team. I know if I hate JR with a passion and feel this team is hopeless, I would probably just dump the site and not pay much attention to the team at all. I watch the sox more or less for the thrill of watching baseball. that is just my opinion, why support a team you feel can never win? once again, not about being a fan, because when fans support a team, it doesn't give the owners much reason to change. I know I'm gonna get jumped on for this comment.
  21. you really don't get an extra hour, just making up for the hour you lost. it is kinda cool though. I usually don't set my clock back and fool myself in the morning, of course it's better having it set an hour ahead as opposed to an hour behind.
  22. I'd prefer to see different teams every year, like the NFL. people like dynasties and it is a great story for the sport in general, but not knowing who is gonna be in there and who is gonna win is so much better.
  23. even though I'm for Rose going to the HOF, credibility coincides with rules. The rule was that any player or manager who gets caught betting on his team is automatically out of the game for life. If they make the exception for him, where do they stop? the mlb has to stick to their guns too. if Rose goes back in though, Jackson should go back in also.
  24. I think Gerhigs farewell speech was right before Rose. I think it was 1. Ripkens Consecutive Games Streak 2. Home Run Chase 3. Jackie Robinson becoming the first African American to Play MLB 4. Hank Aarons Record Breaking Homer 5. Pete Rose's record breaking hit 6. Gerhig's Farewell Speach Ted Williams being the last to hit over. 400 8. Joe DiMaggio's 55 game hit streak 9. Kirk Gibson's Pinch Hit Home Run 10. Nolan Ryan's 7th career no hitter I personally didn't like it. I thought Williams should've been further up as well as Dimaggio's streak. that home run chase in 1998 was an utter joke.
