  1. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 10:40 AM) SIU-UofI is the one I want I think it is probably better for Bruce right now that they lost to Va Tech. If SIU would have done to the Illini what they did to Va Tech, I dont know that Weber would still have his job right now Why would Weber lose his job if they had lost to SIU in the tournament? SIU was a better basketball team at tournament time than Illinois last season. As an longtime Illini fan, I can be fair and objective about my team's chances. I think Weber did a fine job last season with the injuries and problems that the team had. I am looking forward to seeing this year's team and think they are going to surprise some people.
  2. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 06:11 PM) Maybe, but you know who else isn't worth the money long term? Virtually every single free agent ever, always, who's decent and is not coming off of an injury. The highest bidder always pays more than the player's worth. Show me one, no, how about lots and lots of recent contracts where a good free agent (who wasn't injured or legally insane or a drug addict) signed with a new team for a longish term deal and it was reasonable or the guy was "worth it." Or show me one. Sure, you can find some under-the-radar guys who turn out to be valuable. But Hunter, as an all-star, a gold-glover, a 30 home run guy, is not that. As overpaying goes though, I'd rather overpay for someone who is good-to-great at a premium defensive position, and who's valuable with the bat. Vlad Guerrero
  3. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 09:09 AM) Its nice that there can be an in-state game in Illinois. Too bad the fighting Illini dont feel the same way Seriously though, if there was something like the Iowa in-state games or a tournament, I think it would be huge for any of the teams involved. Illinois used to have a tournament - I think it was the Illini Classic and they usually were other teams from Illinois there. I remember them playing ISU several times back when I went to school there. I think that they played Bradley last season and I know that the Illini have played UIC several times in the last 5 or 6 years.
  4. QUOTE(BlizzardOfOzzie @ Apr 24, 2006 -> 12:34 PM) Just curious - weren't they supposed to swap positions and Raines be bench coach and Baines be at 1st base? I could swear I've seen Raines at 1st base all year so far? Are my eyes deceiving me here? After all, only one letter is the difference in their last names. But Harold is way taller than Tim. It seems to me that Tim is the one who's been at 1st base all year. Harold has been at first all season not Raines.
  5. QUOTE(rbloom03 @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 02:56 PM) We were stopped by police at 37th and Normal and told to go to IIT. I knew there was NO way the cash lots were full at 4:30pm so we ignored their directions and jogged down a block to 38th. From there, we were directed into the 1/2 full Lot F. I think the traffic cops were directing people to IIT to clear up traffic. Thank god for most games I'll have a parking pass for the north lots. We got there about 3:45 and the dumb security people directed us down to the entrance on 37th for Lot F and then told us we couldn't get in there. So we went around and parked in the church lot. Should have just parked there when we went past but didn't know that the Lot F was so full. I have parking passes for the rest of my games so will be so much easier!
  6. QUOTE(The Critic @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 04:22 PM) How much will Dusty Baylor whine since the Sox are going extras with the Brewers? "duuuuuuuude, they say they don't have enough pitchers, and now they DO all of the sudden???" Well they are in Tucson so the the Sox should have more pitchers available!
  7. Didn't Iguchi have a so-so spring last year and then was the best Sox hitter in April? I never liked the idea of Uribe hitting 2nd, to me Iguchi fits better as a 2 hitter. As for Jenks and his 100 mile an hour fastball, he needs to throw strikes. We had a closer in Koch who threw hard but couldn't get people out because all he could throw was a fastball. I seem to remember lots of people freaking out last year about Shingo being the closer and our bullpen was going to be the weakest part of the team. Spring Training numbers from last year meant nothing when the season actually started.
  8. This is my best first day ever, 15-1 with my only loss being Nevada. Now we will see how day 2 goes!
  9. QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Feb 8, 2006 -> 04:01 PM) Probably my biggest complaint with the White Sox organization is that they serve Pepsi products at the stadium. Miller is better than Budweiser... but I don't always booze it up at the games. They switch to Coca-cola also, I'll be a happy man Also, gimme three more cashews in those cashew raisins... No, they have to stay with Pepsi. Coke tastes awful and since I don't drink beer, I need my Pepsi.
  10. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 05:17 PM) Maybe some people just arent sensitive enough to other people's cultures? I am an alum and by wiping away all of the Native American symbols, to me its basically saying that your traditions and culture aren't important enough to anyone. Lets just pretend that this never existed or mattered. At least with the Chief, I got to learn about important pieces of the tradition and history. The Chief doesn't go on the road anyways and is not shown on TV so what harm is it doing? I think that the NCAA should spend its time and energy dealing with graduation rates of students and the illegal money flowing into University's due to athletics.
  11. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 10:17 PM) Security kept me from running on the floor tonight after the huge home win... Steve, good job on the wave in the 2nd half you dbag Did the Krush rush the floor at all last year? I don't remember them doing it but it was awhile ago.

    My rant

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 09:02 AM) Someone (JimH?) here had a great quote about getting attached to certain players... "You should care more about the name on the front of the jersey than the name on the back." Players come and go. Being a GM means that you make moves to improve your team. You don't keep certain players just because they are fan favorites. Production matters in baseball. KW has made all of these moves to IMPROVE the team so we can win another World Series. I guarantee you that if Garland truly wanted to stay with the Sox, KW would sign him and you would be able to see him pitch for us. Garland wants to test free agency and is likely going to get priced out of our plans for 2007 and beyond. That's pretty much all there is to it. I do care about the name that's on the front but if I am going to spend 6 months of my year watching and attending games then I am going to form attachments to players. I want to see those players more than one season and then gone. That's why I don't like the NFL anymore, too much moving around every season. Just because someone puts on a Sox uniform doesn't mean I have to like them, ( Tony Phillips, Jaime Navarro, Albert Belle)

    My rant

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 06:58 AM) Everett put up a .746 OPS last season. You don't think that Thome, or even Gload if Thome gets injured, can put up a .746 OPS as our DH? Rowand's .736 OPS from last season is easily replaceable. All Anderson has to is play solid defense, which is supposed to be one of his talents. El Duque had a 1.46 WHIP and a 5.12 ERA last season. Vazquez is a much better pitcher with much better stuff. He's also durable enough to actually make his starts, unlike El Duque. Marte and Vizcaino sucked last season. Do I even need to remind you of this? You guys sound like your are playing Fantasy baseball, these numbers don't look good so I can easily replace them with another player. Some of us fans want to see Rowand play the outfield every day and Garland pitch every 5 days and don't really want to see them playing on another team. I hope Brian Anderson can be a productive major league hitter next year. The only move that I will be majorly pissed off at Kenny for is if he trades Jon Garland away. I have waited for Garland to develop into the pitcher he was lthis year and I really want to see him duplicate that in 2006 in a White Sox uniform.
  14. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 02:44 PM) I was concerned that might be the case. There is also the thing referred to on the Sox website as "Season Ticket Exchange Dates", which my rep said was a list of games you could trade your tickets for, 1-for-1, that gets decided on in March sometime. I am hoping I can just take advantage of that for a couple games. Anyone ever use that feature? Were the games any good last year that fell into that group? I have the weekend plan, when you get your tickets, you get a form that has the exchange dates on it. The thing is you can't exchange tickets until the game you have tickets for is played. So if you have tickets for a game in April that you can't go to, you send them in with the form for a game later in the year. Although you have to pay something for the tickets for the new game, I don't remember how much though.
