May 31, 200421 yr "The amount is large" a large amount is one thing but adding 10% of your payroll on 1 player seems a little too much.
May 31, 200421 yr Glavine is the head of the Players union, not just for the mets. He is the single player rep who is extremely active. JR hates the players union and Glavine does not like JR. That won't happen. lieter might be a better choice.

May 31, 200421 yr Either or would make a good presence. They've been in the playoffs, still can pitch, and would definitely fix that problem in our 5 spot in the rotation.
June 1, 200421 yr Damn. Until I saw that post reminding us of Glavine's standing in the MLBPA, I was thinking maybe we could trade Maggs for Glavine and a prospect. I think Borchard could fill in well enough to justify losing Maggs and gaining Glavine. But with his MLBPA standings, that AIN'T gonna happen. BTW, Glavine would be a number #1... Not a number 3. If we were starting a playoff series, you'd almost have to start off with Glavine considering his post season experience. That is what defines a number 1 pitcher.

The only prospects beside David Wright that the Mets have are the ones the Sox traded them. Seriously. Their minor league system sucks.
June 1, 200421 yr Didn't the Sox say earlier in the year that they didn't want another lefty in the rotation? I thought they did, but can't remember.

June 1, 200421 yr Thanks...glad to be here. Your batting average is 89 posts per day...savor the moment
June 2, 200421 yr Didn't the Sox say earlier in the year that they didn't want another lefty in the rotation? I thought they did, but can't remember. Should they really be picky about which side a guy throws from when they can't find a decent 5th starter?
June 2, 200421 yr Should they really be picky about which side a guy throws from when they can't find a decent 5th starter? I think it may have factored into our offseason moves or rathe lack of them -- I know there was some guys I wanted to shore up the rotation, Rogers, Lidle, Redman, that probably weren't even on the sox radar.
June 2, 200421 yr I forgot Aaron Heilman.. He was a great pitcher at Notre Dame. When he gets it together in Norfolk, he will stay with the Mets for awhile.
