December 20, 200817 yr Nationals Sign Daniel Cabrera By Tim Dierkes [December 20 at 3:24pm CST] According to MLB.com's Bill Ladson, the Nationals signed Daniel Cabrera to a one-year deal (pending a physical). One of Ladson's sources says the Nats beat out the Mets and Pirates for him. So far this offseason the Nationals have added Cabrera and Scott Olsen to their rotation. Cabrera, 28 in May, made 30 starts for the Orioles in 2008 with a 5.25 ERA. His walks remained high, while his strikeout rate was way down and he lost 1.7mph off his average fastball. Cabrera's season ended in September with an elbow sprain, which did not require surgery.
December 20, 200817 yr How many strikeouts will he have this year, 75? I'm talking about his batting of course.
December 20, 200817 yr QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 20, 2008 -> 05:43 PM) I'm thrilled the White Sox didn't sign this stiff. I think they made about one call, then forgot about him.
December 28, 200817 yr This is a decent deal for the Nats. Cabrera sucks yeah, but so does the rest of the Nats pitching staff. If he sucks less then the rest of them they stand to profit... somehow.
