I’m pretty sure even @poppysox has jumped off the Sox bandwagon for this season.

Still watching every game...but for sure disappointed in the poor start.  On another note...happy they dropped the gangster celebration after home runs.  That's only cool when you are leading the league in all offensive categories.

I realize Edgar Quero is only 21-yr old. But he has 495 plate appearances in AA combined and this season alone is raking.

    0.300 BA, 4 HR, 14 RBI, 1.125 OPS

Seems like a promotion is earned to AAA and hoping he can be on the Opening roster next year with Korey Lee.

    Amen!

No...I've been a WS fan for almost 70 years.  Much too late for me.  Best that you save yourself.

As an eternal optimist (I still think Justin Fields is much better than he showed in Chicago), even I can't agree with that latter statement.

    Noted!

Yes, I do.  However, I find it even more entertaining when someone thinks that an offseason in which the Sox GM rebuilt the bottom half of their starting lineup into a terrible combination of bench players in DeJong, Lopez, Maldonado, and Fletcher/Pillar is a good one.  It’s like they are actually buying what Grifol is trying to sell, which would definitely be sticking one’s head in the sand and ignoring all factual data — objective things like recent stats for these players, age causing their decline, etc.

You would be much happier with a team like the Dodgers.  Jerry might live 12 more years with your luck.

Is being 100% positive all the time any better?  Just seems like you are sticking your head in the sand, ignoring all logic and reason, and lying to yourself.

I agree that I point out positives when I can...certainly more than most here.  However, when I have a beef with something like LaRussa...I was not even a little bit positive and said so frequently.  Every season I look forward to the season and find having a positive take to be more enjoyable.  If the team turns out to be bad, I'll turn my attention to individual players.  What you or I think won't change a thing.  Do you find the constant harping about cheap Jerry to be entertaining?

Sure, and another is not being traded. I think a player and his family would like to pick where they're going to live for the next year, and not be separated by a trade in 4 months. If Montgomery's going to end up doing what Snell did, take a 2 year deal with an opt out, I think he might want to be a little more high profile instead of being buried on one of the 5 worst teams in the game.

I don't even know who's looking for pitching, at this point. But I think the White Sox would be the absolute last choice, even considering whatever just happened to Kevin Pillar. Players notice that. There was a handful of players who wouldn't take any amount of money to play for the White Sox after the '94 strike. Curt Schilling and Jim Edmonds are two that come to mind quickly.

Yeah...it takes all kinds.  Still think if we wanted him...offer the most money.  By the way...where did that 5 worst teams remark come from?  Have you gone over to the dark side?

Montgomery was drafted by the Yankees and played the first 5+ years of his career there.  The Yankees are expected to be a contender while the Sox are expected to be a last place team.  It’s great that you hate New York but if any team would have to overpay Montgomery to play for them, it would be the Sox.

    Maybe

While I do share your higher opinion about this team's chances, I still don't see why anybody would come here for the same money they can get anywhere else. His future value is pretty much maxed out. He's 30, it's payday.

You would need to severely overpay me to live in New York.  Many variables involved in offers with the primary one being money.

I hope I don't come off as attacking, but if the Sox are bidding up against the Yankees and world champions, I'm not sure what makes anybody think we would outbid anyone, even with a normal owner. What did Lorenzen even sign for? Why would he come to a last place team, go 1-12, then have to uproot his life in 4 months, not see his family regularly for 3 more months, ..... for what?

The same with Montgomery. This is his free agency he's worked 20 years for. Why do we think guys want to be traded in the middle of a season if they can help it?

If he is truly an ace...he wins with us and enhances his future value.  This team is loads better than people are thinking.

Oh, maybe. I was just saying that if DeJong is still the starting shortstop in September, Monty's progression would have hit a snag.

Or we are winning like crazy and don't want to rock the boat.

  12. 82-85 feels about right.  We will win the division with that rather pedestrian win total.  Looks like a scrappy bunch that will play fundamentally sound baseball.  Good depth on the bench and at Charlotte.  If Robert, Moncada, and Eloy live up to potential...we win the Central with ease.  Both Vaughn and Sheets will look much improved I predict.  Pitching is always a question but Soroka, Fedede, and Crocket have potential to be very good.  Bullpen looks serviceable and I think the addition of Matt Wise and Bannister might pay dividends.  Much improved defense up the middle should help the entire staff look better.  The new coaches and veterans will add to a renewed spirit of comradery IMO. Anxious for OD and an entertaining season ahead.

This is the opinion of two guys. They're very entertaining, but hardly the be all and end all of player development talk.  Sox have a long way to go, but the important thing is that they fix their ability to draft and develop players. This is merely a symptom. They fix the pipeline, the talent will take care of itself.

Same guys who picked us to win the division last year.  Let's just play the games.

Cause the guy in charge of developing players from the last rebuild is now running the entire show with a bunch of people taken from one of the franchises that is just as horrendous + Brian Bannister and Josh Barfield.

All three are great until proven differently in my book.

#1-#3 SPs are what the Sox absolutely not going to sign with the White Sox, so even though TINSTAAPP, if one or both pan out, it's a fair return, plus Zavala is a solid addition.

Do agree they should keep Robert, can't endlessly dump your best players, and hopefully their will be new ownership before his contract expires. Would love to cheer for one solid White Sox for life HOF player before I die.

    How old are you:?🙂

Bennie, Robert, Yoan and Eloy have all been good. Vaughn is a hitter. I don't really have a problem with a Fletcher / Pillar platoon in RF. That will be way better than anything we've run out there since maybe Dye. If DeJong and Lopez can just be their best 1-WAR selves until Ramos and Monty get there, I don't think that's an historically horrible 1-8. I believe Maldonado will be a black hole, but if he's a steadying influence on Soroka and Kopech, so be it. I'd rather Stassi get most of the starts. That may become the reality by the end of the season.

Maldonado is a "black hole" that has played a big part on winning teams.  This lineup is better than last year's opening day lineup that was picked by most pros to win the Central.

But the offense is known and it’s bad.

I disagree.  As I said in my earlier post...if healthy the lineup looks good to me.  As they say...that's why they play the games.

I'm going to play the what if game.....

Bennintendi (Needs to regress to the norm of his career, if he does that's a solid lead off hitter)

Moncada (Needs to stay healthy, if he can then you have a solid player)

    Robert (Super star)

Eloy (Very capable of big numbers with High Average......stay Healthy)

Vaughn ( Live up to the potential of a good hitter)

Fletcher (Has hit everywhere he has been, including MLB last year)

DeJong (He won't be there long before Montgomery takes over)

    Maldonado/Stassi

    Lopez/DeJong

1-7 has the potential to be a good line-up with Montgomery BUT LOTS OF IF's

Yep...the big if is health.  Pitching is unknown but promising.
