Not to mention obligatory spring training injuries (no WBC to rely upon) and the very real risk of Cease himself getting hurt.

After acquiring enough former  Royals to populate Omaha and Memphis...Getz would 100% be off to laughing stock status if he somehow manages to screw up this one.

And not even Poppysox will dare to extol his various virtues.

A watched pot never boils.  Take that.

I think if they trade with the Yankees, they’ll be looking for pitching. Hampton ot Warren to start, if not both. I would avoid Spencer Jones and Pereira at all costs.

Yankees scare me.  Their prospects are always over promoted.

  3. The Cease deal needs to have next seasons starting right fielder and a 2nd baseman or starting pitcher with upside.  I definitely prefer any deal have two high quality and ready for the majors' players rather than someone's idea of a haul (4 or 5 players from down the food chain) has no interest for me.

I think he’s a guy to “throw in” to get 1 more good prospect out of a team if they need an OF’er instead of a lotto ticket prospect. Like if a team offered prospects 2, 6, 10 and 25 for Cease throw in Eloy and get 2, 6, 10 and 12

I don’t really see Eloy getting any kind of significant return in a stand alone trade

    Good...let's just keep him.

Maybe I'm the only one but I have no problem with what Getz is doing.

First there's definitely an epidemic of non aggressive GMs in major league baseball. Even the aggressive ones *cough cough* Atlanta are making very minimally impactful moves. Maybe they can't meet the sales price for Cease. So what? Who's fault is that? We have the market cornered with the best asset available with 2 years in his contract. If these teams want to trade for Chris Sale with his arm about to fall off all the power to them. They'll have to answer to their owners why they got bounced out of the playoffs in the first round. Keep the asking price high because the prices for non impactful pitchers is high too. Let them make the mistakes and wait for the desperation to set it. May take it to the trade deadline.

Yep...Gio getting almost 20 million for 2 years say all you need to know about Cease and his value.

I don’t think any team starting both Madrigal (3B) and Lopez (2B) would be a team in competition, with the importance of offense in the modern game.  Losing that much power at a power position like 3B would be rough.  The team would have to be stacked at many other positions.

    Noone is saying start both.

I agree with you on PCA being a target Getz could be interested in.  But explain to us why the Sox, who already dumped Madrigal once, would want him back again?  Especially when they already have damn near his clone in Nicky Lopez, who shouldn’t be a starting 2B for any major league team either?

Madrigal was traded...not dumped.  A team like our WS have the funds for maybe 6 or 7 high-priced so-called stars (12-25 million) and the rest need to be useful players (1-10 million) types.  Both Lopez and Madrigal play multiple positions reasonably well.  Both can run a little and have OBP in the mid .320's, which would be among the leaders on the white sox.  I love that Madrigal has many extended at-bats which help ware down the opposing team's starter IMO.  I am aware that I come from the go-go era of white sox baseball and that undoubtedly colors my viewpoint that little slap hitters can be useful.

Opinion is incoherently liking a bad player without ever providing any factual data proving your point that said player is good.  But let’s move on and continue to talk about good prospects, not busts like Madrigal.

    Thank you for your "opinion."

Madrigal has 846 career plate appearances and has put up a career slash line of .280/.328/.354/.682.  If he isn’t a Gold Glove defensive SS, that bat isn’t cutting it at 2B or 3B.

Outside of his injury issues, we saw with the Sox that he wasn’t as good of a defender at 2B as he was expected to be as a prospect and he didn’t have the speed you would expect from a guy of his size and stature.  He is never going to have power (unless he starts cycling roids) so what part of Madrigal’s game is going to drastically change to turn him into a good starting caliber player?  He’s a nice backup infielder, but that’s about it.  It’s nice that you have a high “opinion” of Madrigal, but why not look into the facts to make your judgment?

    Well stated "opinion."

    Irrefutable.

Opinion defined is a view or judgement formed about something not necessarily based on fact.  Of course, it's refutable.  In the collective mind of professional scouts, he was among the best players in his draft class.  He was fast tracked to the majors and almost immediately had injury problems.  In my "opinion"...the jury is still out on his worth.

The Os could trade a quantity package and blow away any deal the overrated Yanks farm system can produce.

Why any of you would want the Yankees involved is beyond me.

For the reason you stated.  Competiton drives up the return.

To be fair, Frobby & Sports Guy both are aligned to a Kjerstad / Cowser + Ortiz framework.  They just feel like the O’s don’t need to go any higher than that.

Fans never want to overpay.  We want to give up half a dozen crap players for the other guy's star.  The best trades are Dick Allen for Tommy John straight up type deals.  I have a need...you have a need.  We have a need for a high-quality right fielder, and a high-quality second baseman.  Whoever can best fill that order can have Cease IMO.  I know that we can use some high-quality pitchers as well...but we aren't going to receive 3 high end players for 2 years of Cease.

Jerry won’t let any of his GM’s sign any “best player at any position” and the GM’s that Jerry lets run the show aren’t good enough at their jobs to find enough diamonds in the rough to make the Sox a good team with their dumpster diving.

Madrigal has been useful for the Cubs as a backup infielder who can play 3B, but he will never be a quality starter.  You hoping that the Sox acquire him would only make the Sox worse than Getz’s 2024 roster already will be.  The Sox already have a slightly better version of Madrigal.  His name is Nicky Lopez.  He plays better defense than Madrigal but he’s just as bad of a player because he can’t hit either.  Neither of these two guys is more than a backup on a good team, yet Lopez will be a starter at 2B for the Sox and you are still yearning for the Sox to bring back Madrigal.

Thant's why I ended my comment with IMO.  Now we have your "opinion."

But how does Nick Madrigal represent quality?  He’s like a 15% to 20% below major league average bat.

I remember Carlos Lee for Scotty Pods got this same reaction.  Lots of different types can make a really good team.  Unless your team can buy the best player available at every position...compromises need to be made.  Madrigal will end up being a very useful player one of these days IMO.

He means, get Pete Crow-Armstrong, then perform an a cappella piece with many voices.

What I mean is I prefer major league ready players rather than a year or two away.  Also, quantity is not as important as quality.

When you say Madrigal, please tell me you don’t mean Nick?

If the Cubs are successful in resigning Bellinger...Pete Crow-Armstrong will be blocked as is Madrigal.  My belief is we need to find blocked players that are major league ready at our two weakest positions.  I like Madrigal more than most here, but the concept of blocked players is my interest in posting.  The two position players I mention plus a #3/4 potential SP and perhaps a RP with potential would be a very satisfactory return for Cease.
