  1. YAY! Iguchi last moved a runner over when New Orleans was still a vibrant city.
  2. VANCE F'n Wilson nearly threw out pods.
  3. Looking at the other pitching matchups, the Sox won't be getting any help tonight. We're on our own.
  4. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 05:54 PM) right, but in his interview with Rooney I thought he said they're expecting him at anytime. Hard to understand what the hell he's saying. Yes, he should be at the game. -- But he's not in the lineup. The best you can hope for is him to GIDP instead of Blum.
  5. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 05:52 PM) so crede could be in the lineup tonight? That's the impression I got from Ozzie's interview. They're expecting him anytime. No Ozuna is at 3B
  6. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 04:27 PM) i don't get it They piss down their legs when the pressure is on.
  7. Close and Late Dye -- .141/.210/.326 Rowand -- .213/.303/.330 Uribe -- .247/.323/.318 Everett -- .160/.259/.253
  8. Sour Grapes, thy name is Illini. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/news?slug=ci...adel&type=story Good gains from a 5th string RB? -- He averaged 2.4 yards per carry on the season, and finished with something like 250 yards on the season. New quarterback? -- Brad Banks was the #1 JuCo QB recruit in 2000. He sat on the bench in '01 learned the system (Protect the ball, make mistakes with your feet not your arm) and in 2002 was ready to become the big 10's best QB. Ken O'Keefe opened up the playbook to include option and lots of designed QB runs. He tailored the offense to his talent. -- Nathan Chandler was the #1 JuCo QB recruit in 2001. He lead the nation in passing. He sat on the bench in '02 learned the system (Protect the ball, make mistakes with your feet not your arm) and in 2003 was ready to be a servicable Big 10 QB. Thanks to a great offensive line he was rarely pressured and had one of the nations top running games. Ken O'Keefe trimmed the playbook to mostly a running, play action passing, and short pass game. He never gave too much for Chandler to handle. He tailored the offense to his talent. -- Drew Tate was a top 15 QB prospect in 2002. He set the national records for passing in HS. He sat on the bench in 2003, learned the system (Protect the ball, make mistakes with your feet, not your arm) and was Iowa's best option at QB for 2004. He struggled early as RB after RB was sidelined for the season, but as the season progressed the Iowa offensive coordinator Ken O'Keefe learned what the kid could do, and built an offense that played to his stregths. He tailored the offense to his talent. -- This all sounds like 1) good recruiting and 2) great coaching. -- I know the latter has severely lacking in Champaign since well forever. Miraculous last second victory in the Cap One Bowl. -- Iowa trailed for 45 seconds..... THE ENTIRE GAME!
  9. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:59 PM) There is always basketball and hockey. Not quite, but close....
  10. QUOTE(Wiredawg1 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:45 PM) Easy now.. I haven't called a single person in here any names.. Nope.. Just trying to point out the irony of the situation.. Hindsite and all that good s***.. You know.. Hindsite? Daffynition: Viewing with your ass.
  11. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:52 AM) Ok, screw all this pods talk. Where the f*** is rally mojo, cheat. He needs to be used sometime, he can't be a 1 act wonder. He was posted twice, and worked twice, in the last week or so... Once was seconds before Crede's HR.
  12. QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:42 AM) Hermanson's back will continue being bad and he will blow save after save. This was just playing with fire... We all knew it would happen. I was sitting at a game in early august with keith, Tony, and Steve. I hadn't paid much attention to Hermy's stats, but I had noticed him getting hit very hard lately. -- When they showed his stats on the screen 21K's in 42 IP at the time. He had a ERA of 1.76. -- I turned to Vince (not the creepy old guy, another Vince) and said, I don't know how he's getting it done, but I'm enjoying the ride. We're probably gonna crash and burn on it though. It was only a matter of time before Dustin came back to earth. Same with Pods. He's at his established level of suckitude. -- You can argue that he's hurt, but I say that's a byproduct of the way he plays. (Just like Frank has to deal with foot issues because of his weight) Pods spends more time on the ground than anyone in baseball. -- That's a lot of wear and tear on a guy who is not exactly a YOUNG third year player. -- You wouldn't want Konerko out there flopping around, why Pods?
  13. QUOTE(3E8 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:33 AM) Some of you need to come to terms with the fact, like I did, that Pods isn't as valuable as the average major league outfielder. He's the sexy player to have on your team, but he's just not that great. Especially when not running. Agreed. Here were my hopes going into the season. 1) Pods would suck, but the team would win in spite of him. 2) Everett would get off to a hot start out of the gate and carry the team. 3) Frank would come back and rock. 4) Everett & Frank's awesomeness combined with Pods' suckitude would force the Sox to bench him before the ASB. 5) I would live happily ever after. I was most happy with Pods performace around the first week of May. He was on pace to walk about 100 times, and had an OBP near .400, despite hitting well below what he is now. He's only walked a little over 20 times since then. I didn't care about his SB total then. I don't care about it now. I just want him to get on base. Not make outs. Any way possible. -- If that includes stealing a base, good. Don't get caught. If that means batting .450, good, though i'd like to see the ball out of the infield once in a while. If it means leaning into a pitch than by all means do it.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:31 AM) It's like 6 for 24 if you inclue pick offs. .354 OBP my ass.
  15. QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:17 AM) Not to the opposing pitchers. I saw too many pitchers laying meatballs right down the plate for Iguchi, throwing pitches to first with a bit of giddyup but the ball ended up in the stands or near the walls. I saw too much of Podsednik taking a huge ass lead while the pitcher just crumbles in the 1st inning. I saw too much of defenders rushing a throw to get Podsednik just to realize they focused more on velocity than accuracy. All of this because they feared little ol' powerless worthless Scott Podsednik getting on and stealing a base. Pods is 6 for 20 since july 23rd. He sucks.
  16. Pods is a one dimensional player. He's best suited for use in the Dave Roberts role. That's it. Though I did enjoy his one (bunt) hit tonight. Extremely useful.
  17. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:03 AM) Nobody but his family and a couple of brewers fans knew who he was last year... He may be a little bit overrated, but I wouldn't go as far as calling him one of the most in all of baseball. Dude, his average draft position in fantasy drafts the past two seasons has been in about the third round. Nobody new who Luis Vizcaino was when the deal went down. Pods was a waiver wire reject, and there were several people here wo said just that. SBs are overrated.
  18. QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:03 AM) Hahahaha, ok. That's why we started sucking once he went down. Our winning percentage with one of the greatest right handed hitters in baseball is much better than it is with Pods. Qwerty and I hated the Pods for Lee trade....
  19. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:37 PM) Well, yeah, that's kind of what I'm hoping. I was going to say it's the name of guy who plays for the other team.
  20. QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:58 PM) Oh please. Everyone in Soxdom woulda paid 5 cents to suck Pods off in the first half. Now people are ready to dump him for nothing. Not I. He's always been among the most overrated baseball players in the game.
  21. QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:53 PM) Funny how some are so quick to turn on someone who has a well documented nagging groin injury (which really sucks for us, by the way). He is noticeably slower than he was earlier in the season. Here's to a happy, healthy Pods in 2006 to prove all these dopes that leadoff hitters are very important. I don't recall everyone embracing the waiver wire castoff with open arms. Maybe they are just pulling an I told you so...
  22. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:32 PM) Cheat, Here is the butchers bill on Blum. .105 with RISP compared to Timo .237 He is 0 for 12 this year with RISP and 2 outs. But Ozzie had his gut, and we sit here with a loss. Blum has sat on the bench and hasnt played in a while. Ozzie played everyone all the time, resting good amounts of our starters. And felt no pressure, why because we had a 15 game lead. He squandered that lead, playing Timo in just about every possible position. Now that he is in official panic mode, he is playing his go to guys and they are dying. He is afraid to make a change at this point, figuring it will backfire. Whatever Gload did to get on Ozzies bad side, holy s***. Ozzie spit the bit, BECAUSE he listened to outside pressure. All he heard yesterday and today before the game was why didn't you pinch hit for AJ? So when a key situation came up tonight, he had to make a move to make it look like he was playing the matchups. If he had turned to AJ in that situation, you know Walker was coming in from the bullpen to face him, so it was a no win situation sending him up there. -- Blum, who I hate, and I'm pretty much playing devil's advocate here, was probably your best option after Borchard because he is a switch "hitter"
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:25 PM) We all wanted a ph today...but why Blum? He was our 4th best option off of the bench. I don't know how many times I've said it this year, but..... If he's on the roster, he's in danger of being used. -- No surprise there Let's bring up that Blum thread. There was a ton of people defending him with the sub .200 BA, useless defense, and 4 extra base hits.
