He sat on the bench in 2003, learned the system (Protect the ball, make mistakes with your feet, not your arm) and was Iowa's best option at QB for 2004. He struggled early as RB after RB was sidelined for the season, but as the season progressed the Iowa offensive coordinator Ken O'Keefe learned what the kid could do, and built an offense that played to his stregths. He tailored the offense to his talent. -- This all sounds like 1) good recruiting and 2) great coaching. -- I know the latter has severely lacking in Champaign since well forever. Pods is a one dimensional player. He's best suited for use in the Dave Roberts role. That's it. Though I did enjoy his one (bunt) hit tonight. Extremely useful.
