  1. There was talk of the three division winners having a live televised draft of their opponent, would have made for compelling television and would have given an actual advantage to finishing with the top records in the league.

In a season of vast one time changes, not making this one was dumb on all accounts. Plus the added grudge for both teams and fans for being selected as an opponent, as if you were the weakest team.

    yes.

that and they thought they saw something they could change to take him to the next level. They need time to let him adjust to those changes. It's not fair yo a player to tell him to change and then not give him time to adjust to those changes.

Kenny and Hahn likely got really excited about the 505 foot home run.

The reason we traded a second round pick for Mazara, Home Run courtesy of Reynaldo Lopez.

Joe Borchard also hit one really far that one time. Kenny's Number 1 pick in 2000. Joe finished his career with a negative WAR (-1.5).

Mazara's is positive for now (1.1, though -0.2 with the White Sox), hopefully he won't get enough playing time to turn negative before leaving.

Any details or insight to provide?

No breaking news, but he did speak highly of Dylan Cease, contrasting a few comments noted in the game thread yesterday. He stated he is performing well, especially in light of his relative inexperience.

Jason B on now, both stated they would vote Anderson over Abreu as their top AL MVP vote.

Jason’s answer to Parkins question regarding Eloy’s difficulties in LF brought up his physical limitations, and Parkins’ follow up was, “So you’re saying Eloy is like you out there.”

Let me stop you at "at Wrigley."  Sox take care of business and they are the division winner.  I don't pay attention to the Cubs.  They are constantly thrown in my face so I push back against it where I can, but I prefer to pay them no mind.

These are the types of people we all strive to avoid, be it in discussions involving politics, sports, religion or other topics of grief and arguments.

I hope you can avoid these types in the future.

    Peace

In his postgamer Engel said that RR told him if the infielders are moving (the wheel play) fake bunt and swing away.  Ricky's trying to credit his men and that's a good thing.  I'm giving credit to RR.  You can give it to whomever you want or whatever your agenda says.

Yes, nice for Ricky to continue to give credit to his players, while at the same time Engel stating the facts and giving credit Ricky for his call to swing away. You can see the mutual love between players and manager, which regardless of decisions, is helping the team to play together, never quit and have each others backs.

    https://www.si.com/mlb/whitesox/games/from-the-locker-room-adam-engel-dekes-his-way-to-a-white-sox-win

Manager Ricky Renteria fully credited Adam Engel for seeing the "wheel" play in motion (the shortstop shifting over to cover third base on a bunt as the third baseman charges in, second baseman to first in the same manner) and executing a perfect fake bunt and grounder up the middle to bring home Yoán Moncada with the White Sox's second run.

    Engel, however, disagreed.

"Before the at-bat, Ricky told me if the middle infielders vacate, pull back and swing and try to hit it up the middle," Engel said postgame. "After the first pitch, I saw the shortstop vacated, and tried to hit a ground ball up the middle."

And no, pulling the back back from a bunt is not something Engel admits to practicing.

  6. This should be their every game Giolito / Dunning start lineup, flip McCann (most games) with Grandal (all games) for the other three starters. Been calling for this for a few weeks now.

The only tweak would be flipping Robert with McCann, to give him a little more protection than Engel will provide. Still better protection than Mazara, who batted behind Robert for most of the season except when Robert subbed for the injured Anderson at the top of the lineup.

I always knew the off days would be less due to the new playoff format, but I didn't think they'd get rid of them. Now every team needs 5 starters or would have to have guys go on short rest.

Yes, other teams have the same issue, but would prefer a 2-3-2 format, games followed by a day off, same as with travel. I can see the players wanting to get out of the bubble ASAP and agreeing to this. Will be tempting using Keuchel or Giolito on short rest, but would prefer regular rest especially in this weird year.

    Go Sox.  Fuck the Cubs.

Who are you rooting for tonight at Wrigley?

Not suggesting people should become Cub fans beyond Thursday, just stating it is in the White Sox' vested interest for the Cubs to beat Cleveland. I personally don't take any joy in the Cubs winning or losing. Sure we all know a few douchebag fans that are obnoxious, but there are also solid baseball fans among lifelong fans that are Cub fans, and I was happy for them in 2016, even though I wanted Cleveland to win (usually root for the American League team regardless in the World Series, unless the Expos (hate the Nationals) or Mets were in the World Series).

What has Stiever done to start over Lopez? Honest question.

I like Stiever, but by no means has he earned anything over Lopez.

I agree. Lopez looked good last time out, and the White Sox have a vested interest in turning him around. Not to say he should be starting in the playoffs, but Lopez should get another look vs. Cincinnati this weekend.

For all you youngsters out there, Ray Rayner was the morning cartoon show host on WGN in the 1970s and 1980s. He would provide White Sox and Cubs highlights at one point in his show, and flip his half White Sox half Cubs hat / helmet (he is wearing the dual hat in the video) to present the respective highlight.

This was pre-meatball/meathead days, when you could have a favorite home team, but not hate the team across town. I'll be rooting for the White Sox and Cubs the next three days, hope most of you can join me.

Go White Sox, beat the Piranhas!

    Go Cubs, beat the Injuns!

    This.

It gets a lot easier next year if you bring in a real RF this offseason.

As for this season, I’m totally good with Mazara being used sparingly at this point. Guy just flat out sucks. Fine with them using EE Mostly as they have been, but I’d DH Abreu, play Grandal at 1B and catch McCann a little more than they have been (tho certainly not everyday).

If you bring up Collins, for either of these two garbage acquisitions, you can rotate Grandal (95% playing time), Abreu (95% playing time) and McCann (60% playing time), eliminating the need to play Parrot.

The Sox play Engel more, or even Dyson, in place of Mazara.

Luis Robert has been in a small slump.  It was actually good to see him get a walk in a key at-bat.  Can't wait until he starts crushing it again.

Give him protection for the first time since he replaced Anderson at the top.

I think Ricky's had the clubhouse far more than Robin ever did.

I lost all respect for Robin Ventura on August 4, 1993

23 years later, Robin played Beta Boi to a 14 year old, Drake Laroche. Robin had to call Kenny to the clubhouse to restore order.

  14. They need to bring up Vaughn and/or Collins tomorrow, and settle on a final lineup of capable players. This isn't a reaction to one game, it is a reaction to almost 50 games.

Giolito / Dunning Starters: SS Anderson; 3B Moncada; 1B Grandal; DH Abreu; LF Jimenez; CF Robert; McCann; RF Mazara / Engel; 2B Madrigal

Keuchel / Cease / #5 Starters: Same except Grandal; 1B Abreu; DH McCann or someone else.

    • Mazara should only start against RHP, and be pulled after 2-3 ABs for Engel (first LH Reliever and or 7th in a close game for defense).
    • Eloy should not be playing LF period in the 9th during any close lead (3 or less runs).
