Love it that she comes in for the last inning.  My wife pops her head up to ask me questions like "why does that guy (Eloy) always point at his arm when he hits a home run?  Ask your friends on that site."  :D  I didn't ask but did google it to get her an answer better than my original response..."that's Eloy!!!"

Game threads can be maddening, but I forgot to mention that I have started the last 3 games with a beer, but kept it at 1 to not get too sucked into the game thread madness. ;)

Does she ever say/scream "What are you doing, Wegner?" That would be cool.

Well, there are only 14 games left so I guess it's good to rest the best hitters a lot. It's good to have at least 2 or 3 of the best OPS hitters sitting out every game. It's really important to get Mazara, Mendick, Sanchez, and Encarnacion a lot of at-bats. Really important.

  4. Yes, would also love to see McCann catch Cease, with Grandal at 1B and Abreu DH.

And Parrot should be hitting 7th at this point, unless Ricky is sending a message to Rick.

Does anyone here recall the cartoons in 2006 with Ozzie playing a pirate and Hawk a parrot saying "Can of Corn" and his other cheesy phrases?

This is the closest Encarnacion should get to the field

Everyone forgets that before injuries, Burger won awards in college for defense and MLB gave him a 55 grade for his arm and 50 grade for fielding.

When he got injured, he said he spoke with Jose Abreu who suffered a similar injury (see below). Jose was able to retain the power and the current weight allows him to play well and stay on the field.

Burger looks like he lost some weight in recent videos, and said he is open to a transition to another spot. I like his work ethic and willingness to battle through two tough injures.  I hope he can at least get healthy enough to contribute or gain trade interest if there is no spot for him here at the ML level.

Burger chatted with White Sox first baseman José Abreu, who suffered a similar injury in 2008. "He was like, 'Look, man, it's a tough recovery, but you'll get back,'" Burger said. "He said he lost 30 pounds while going through it. I'm looking to that and looking forward to being back with my family for a couple of weeks."

  6. Also, assuming Eloy can stay on the field continuing as a LF, he is definitely costing the team runs, wiping out a significant portion of his offensive production with his left field butchery, even with Robert covering as much of LF as possible.

    • Eloy Jimenez -2.06 dWAR/162 games
    • Kyle Schwarber -1.14 (Includes games at catcher, which increased the negative dWAR)
    • Dave Kingman -1.03 (Through 1980, before his DH/1B career stage)
    • Carlos Lee -0.88 (A near gold glove LF compared to Eloy's first two seasons)
    1. Can Eloy stay healthy in LF? If the team works him out of his "I don't care if I get hurt" mindset.
    2. Can he get better in LF with continued work? Perhaps, he is still young. If he can stay healthy and improve, this would give the White Sox most value. Even getting to Kyle Schwarber / Carlos Lee capability would be a huge improvement.
    3. Is Eloy responsible for the vast overstock of DH/1B only players on the roster/in the pipeline? No, that would be Rick Hahn. Even if Parrot and McCann walk, the White Sox have several players/prospects vying for 3 positions over the next few seasons:
    • Andrew Vaughn
    • Eloy Jimenez
    • Jose Abreu
    • Yasmani Grandal
    • Zack Collins
    • Yermin Mercedes
    • Jake Burger

We need one OFer,  a RFer, Eloy will stay in LF until Jose Abreu career is complete. He and Andrew Vaughn will be the 1B/DH combo. Eloy would only be a DH if we needed one. We have enough DH candidates at the moment. Abreu, Vaughn, Collins, Yermin, Grandal and McCann can all rotate at DH even when EE is gone next year there will be no shortage. If the Cubs can live with Scwarber we can live with Eloy in LF.

It's not what we can or cannot live with, it's whether Eloy will remain alive or continue to get injured attempting to play left field.

"I'm just trying to go play hard," he said. "If you see when I got hurt in the outfield, it was because I tried to do my best and just playing hard. I don't care if I get hurt in the outfield."

If Rick Hahn didn't get fired after 2016, it's hard to imagine the failure that would get him fired. He could sabotage the american response to a pandemic, kill hundreds of thousands, and in the process cost his employer tens of millions of dollars and that'd still be less of a reason to fire him than he already gave this org. Rick Hahn will not be fired because his teams didn't go far enough in the playoffs, and if his teams make a world series at some point, his mind will be implanted into an android and used as the GM before he's fired.

I agree. Konerko gave Reinsdorf his ball, and he proclaimed gratitude. For the chosen few that gave Reinsdorf both of their balls (Williams 1986, Cooper 1988, Hahn 2002(, they become are a friend and employee for life. That said, he will turn 90 in 2026, and will likely no longer serve as managing partner by then, either stepping down or passing. It's likely an outside partner purchases controlling interest when this occurs. since he owns the highest share total and the family has stated they have no interest in retaining their baseball shares.

New owners may keep White Sox Gar Pax around for a year or two until they are ready to hire in their own people, but they will not have the same lifelong employment deal they currently enjoy.

If the Sox don't have $6 million to spend in a year where $45 million is coming off the books and they're legit contenders, then they might as well just fold it up.

I get what you're saying - covid, etc. But man, I can't describe how infuriating that would be.

You shouldn't look at it that way. The team looks at reality, which is the 2020 payroll is $50.2M, of which Reinsdorf and his fellow 29 "capitalist owners" squealed like pigs saying they would be rendered homeless if a second payroll cut beyond the game/pro-rated cuts wasn't implemented, that they would lose $640K per game, yada yada yada. Yes we knew they were lying, because their mouths were moving, but this 60 game / 16 team playoff farce is the result of the greed and avarice of the "caretakers" of the game.

    Cot's MLB Contracts: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1C4dU46AiC_pt1GtzakmASUg9UD_UnpG32kdRZ3clOnk/edit#gid=1520401900

In 2021, the White Sox are scheduled to pay $80.3M for their top eight contracts (Grandal, Keuchel, Abreu, Anderson, Jimenez, Moncada, Robert & Bummer) plus buyouts (Cishek, Gonzalez, Garcia & Herrera), with 32 more players to go on the 40 man, including arbitration eligible players (Mazara, Rodon, Marshall, Sanchez, Giolito, Lopez, Fry, Engel, Delmonico). The White Sox are well double the current year payroll without player salary concessions, and they will likely be in the $110-$115M range with the current arbitration process, and without signing McCann, Colome, Mazara, Parrot, Garcia, Dyson or Detwiller, and not replacing them with anyone beyond the Major League Minimum Salary.

People can post what they want, but the thought that they would bring back McCann at $18M, Bauer at his going rate, or any high price FA this year is not based in reality.

    • Business are not open in large parts of downtown, these same businesses will be lining up to buy White Sox skyboxes?
    • Many people are out of work, or making less than their previous salary. These people will be lining up to get into Comiskey?
    • Restaurants and bars are operating at limited capacity. Comiskey will be open to 40,000 for opening day in six months?
    • Most reasonable estimates are a vaccine will be offered sometime in 2021 at the earliest (Cy Young Award Contender Fauci said late 2021 the other day). Do people expect a change to current operating guidelines before then, or near unanimous production, distribution, acceptance and proven success of a vaccine in six months? That people will want to sit shoulder to shoulder in crowded stadiums prior to vaccine and complete eradication of significant health risk, likely not to occur for at least 1-2 years from today.

The Sox do not have TV revenue to make up for loss of significant to all of their attendance revenue, they don't have an ownership group willing to take on any operating losses, regardless of the billions in capital and realized gains earned over 40 years, and they don't have an incentive to spend to jump a couple TV local ratings points. We will know in six months what normal will look like for 2021, but it is very likely to look more like 2020 than 2019, 2006 or any other year pre-COVID.

I was gonna start a thread on RR now staying forever but I'll put it in here.

Yes, all hail our hitting coach. Whether he's the cause for this or not ... he will benefit from this and be a hero in Chicago and get credit for this best hitting team in Sox history. Deservedly so. Sox are better than anybody in this all or nothing HR or K era. Hitting coach deserves credit.

As far as RR, if we finish out September this good, he's probably going to get a well deserved extension. His ability to relate to the players is really all that matters. He speaks the primary language of many of them. Sure we can nitpick a pitching decision here and there, but RR has the right buttons pushed. Players love him apparently and he obviously lets Cooper and the hitting coach run their groups. Just when I think Jose needs a "rest," he gets 4 hits and knocks in 7. RR knows what he's doing. Folks, if we finish this baby with the first or second best record, RR is here for as long as he wants. He's stopped the insane bunting and players love him! (I guess if he somehow plays small ball in the playoffs and returns to the bunt or does something crazy he still could get fired someday, but I don't think he does that; the bunting is over).

Go Sox and let's keep winning!

Rick Renteria was extended in November 2018 beyond the 2019 term. It's likely at least for two seasons (2021), since a one year extension is rare.

Whether Hahn extends him for a second time this off-season remains to be seen. I'm not as critical as most of the board seems to be of Renteria.

To me, a new GM needs to select a new Manager, in the event the White Sox do not capitalize over the next few years.

  11. Nice, Monday is the deadline for postseason eligibility., nice to see the call-up to help the rotation, provide insurance for Dallas or any other starter through season end, and give Ricky another option with 15 straight games to go.

Perhaps Parrot can be placed on the DL with the hiccups and we can see Vaughn up for the Twins series.

I don’t understand why people want Robert sitting when he had 2 off days this week already and he is facing a pitcher he can get back on track with? He isn’t a platoon player and having Engel out there for anyone it should be Mazara

He looked lost at the plate yesterday, and needs to play all four against the Piranhas.

  13. Hoping for a Sox win, but continued Parrot suckage, so that it is clear to everyone on the planet including Rick Hahn that he shall not return, either at $12M or a lesser amount. Also holding out hope for a possibility of a phantom IL stint and Vaughn call-up.

Also agree today was the best day for a Robert day off, let Engel get a start already. Engel should be starting more in RF as well.

  14. That was one of the funnest games to watch this year. Eloy was HUGGGEEE! Yolmer played well filling in, bottom of the line-up picking up 3-6. Bullpen rested and pitched lights out.

Fulmer and Lopez go at it tomorrow, both are 2-3 IPs though hopefully Lopez figures things out and makes some progress.

The White Sox are now 1/2 game behind Tampa for the best record in the American League.
