I get that it's frustrating.  I absolutely hate seeing Leury in any game much less last night's debacle.  However, for any of us to imply TL doesn't understand situational baseball is just silly.  For the record...I think he should start Vaughn in left field every game and Mercedes should never be out of the lineup...Yaz is overrated and Madrigal will be recognized as a star one day by this forum.  We all have "opinions" and sometimes they are different than others.

He didn't know how many outs there were. This is not my opinion. So to imply he had any clue about what was happening in that instance is silly.

We all know that we lost the game last night.  I am defending the position of "the manager" being one that is easily second-guessed.

In some cases yes but last night was ridiculous, and he didn't even know how many outs there were. It was a true clownshow.

I can't see them dealing him when they are in a race for the playoffs and rodon is doing well.

Now it might Actually make sense but teams just don't do that.

Is he eligible for a comp pick if he leaves?

Not sure about the comp pick, and I agree in principle they probably won't do this for optics. The last thing they want is the perception of another white flag trade. So I guess it would surprise me if they did, but from a long term perspective it makes sense.

  4. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he keeps this up, and the Sox aren't playing really top notch baseball, that they looked to unload him at the deadline. It's a lose lose to keep him through the end of this year unless you truly think the Sox can win a championship, because there's no way Jerry is going to give him a market rate if he finishes this year with say a 3.00 era, solid peripherals, and healthy.

And if Cease has 3 games in a row where he looks like he has turned the corner while Dunn gets hit hard in 3 in a row, then the actors become quite dramatic once more in the Soxtalk production of SSS Theater.

Certainly, I haven't been here long enough to really comment. I preferred Dunning's higher floor to Cease's higher ceiling, but I hope that I am wrong.

  6. I think ideally Musgrove and Dunning would have been great, although partially that's hindsight because they are both looking better than expected so far. I love Lynn, he's a true hoss who just attacks batters relentlessly. But if he goes after this year it was a pointless move. I thought after they made that deal they were going all in - I was obviously a fool. One year of Lynn with a team that seems close but not quite there feels like true White Sox, a move that feels like it's more for showing the fan base they are trying to win without really doing what's required to get the team to that level. If they sign Lynn to a reasonable two year deal I will feel much better about it, obviously.

I would have preferred they kept Dunning and traded Cease (if possible).

Was it even possible to NOT decline after his ridiculous 2018 season?  His numbers were insane in 2018, and he's one of the best college hitters of the last 20 years.

In 2019, his numbers were still awesome, and every opposing pitcher knew the type of hitter he was at that point. He increased his walks from 44 in 2018 to 60 in 2019, and still put up a crazy 1.243 OPS in 2019.  Sure, you can call 2019 a decline, but that's not painting a very fair picture.

    He was talking about Abreu.

  8. Have any of you seen Vaughn in person? I went to a couple Dash games in Myrtle Beach in 2019.

Obviously this isn't based on his metrics, which are really good. He had a nice swing, hit a couple doubles in the first game I saw, has an easy ability to hit it all over the park.

He was really, really small though. Clearly the shortest guy on the Dash as I was about 15 rows up along first base and you cold tell during the anthem. I'd guess he was 5'9 maybe 5'10. Obviously not a huge deal but it was striking to me.
