He's not gonna let go the rudder because of some choppy waters early.  That's why they hired him.  Rickie would give a little golf clap to the media and some ass pats.  I think that TLR will use the player reps to get the message across: and that message is that you are a professional and get your head screwed on right before the homestand.

If you read through my posts today, they are more about TLR's age and post game exhaustion than about the play so far.

Somehow his taking responsibility will be spun as a positive sign that he gets it, and is perfectly suited for today's game, taking the pressure off his players ala Ozzie Guillen by becoming a sideshow unto his self.

This has the potential of turning into a very ugly & embarrassing season, especially for TLR.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's been praying on the plane for a rainout tomorrow.

Robin Ventura spent 4 years on a couch trying to explain that “hard work made me quit” and was given the opportunity to resign rather than being fired. LaRussa will not be leaving. It’s everyone’s pride at this point.

Not saying that he's given the opportunity to resign, saying he just does it on his own because he realizes that he just can't do it physically anymore.  Last night he came so close to nodding off in the presser.  His eyelids have had lead weights on them on every postgame presser I've seem so far, including today.  TLR 10 years ago would have been fine.  From what I've seen of him so far this year, he's a tired old man.  Today's huge pitching mistake(s) is just the tip of the iceberg.  When someone's that tired all the time, mistakes follow.  It's gonna get ugly, some big ones are inevitable.

Those players will be traded then, not him

If he's this worn out already, hopefully he realizes that he can't do it and decides to walk away and save others from as much embarrassment as possible..  Hopefully it happens much sooner than later; before the AS break at the latest.  Hopefully before he pulls a Bevington.

Losing Eloy’s charisma and adding the curmudgeon as manager has really made this team less enjoyable. Given the sloppiness as well, it’s been a really hard watch.

He's gonna lose this team very soon,

  6. His pressers are so friggin embarrassing!  He can barely stay awake and seems annoyed that the questions are keeping him up.   Makes me wonder how many times he's dosed off during the games.  The lethargic play so far is a reflection of their drowsy manager.

The narrative I've heard throughout the Sox org is that Crocket's amateur career is as a starter.  Baseball Ref contradicts this in a big way.  So I painstakingly went though all of Tennessee's 2018 & 2019 box scores to verify and Baseball Ref is correct.  His Tennessee bio also says he started 11 games in 2018.  Their own 2018 box scores contradict that. as well.  Of the 12 starts, he got pounded in about half of them and most were 6 innings or less.  Some of those game stats overlapped.  Most of his RP appearances were outstanding  His moderately high career era is mostly a result of his starts.  Over the two years, Tenn also had a few true SP's that had double Crochet's innings.

What am I missing here with the SP narrative?  At least at Tenn, don't know anything about his high school stats.

What are you suggesting exactly?  The reason the Sox are trying Vaughn out in LF is they think that him plus Collins at DH gives them a better chance to win than Leury in LF everyday and Vaughn at DH?

I don't see how extra TB surrendered would match TB gained with Vaughn in LF and Collins DH.  Vaughn is slow, has no range, and a terrible arm.  Teams will be taking extra bases on him all the time.  Plus, his inexperience and hustle will lead to lots of chances for collisions with Robert.  They'll be in the same vicinity a lot.  All it takes is one.  Also, Vaughn's bat will likely be affected.  I can't believe that they'd actually go through with this.

How about Charlie Blackmon at the deadline. Colorodo on the hook for 23 mil per 2021 & 2022 plus 10 mil buyout in 2023. Sox send Eaton , Rodon or Lopez and we receive 7 mil per year from Colorado...thoughts? LH hitter, big upgrade from Eaton. More power better defender.

Definitely keep Blackman in mirror in case situation warrants.  If Vaughn & OF doing ok then no.  Co is gonna want to move him, imo.  Ditto on some creative finances ala Shields trade else no.  Also, John Gray ($6m full season) would be a cheap rental if he's having a decent year (2022 FA).  Can't have too many starters in 2nd half this year.

During the season, I think there's a scenario he can find his way on. That said, I am not sure he can break with the team based on the 40 man roster situation.  Lucroy and Andrew Vaughn still need 40 man spots.

On the positional side, there is no one to drop from the 40 but Zavala - who they have been reluctant to drop for years now.

On the pitching side, Ruiz is out of options. Cordero could be cuttable I guess. Maybe they dump Burdi.  There really isn't a lot of crap on the 40 man anymore.

I could be wrong, but in order for them to roster Burr out of the gate, they would need to cut Zavala, cut Ruiz and option Lopez. They could move Fry to the 60 day IL but I don't know if his injury is that serious. Just tough to make room for Burr is my point.

Yeah, you're probably right.  Since both are out of options, Ruiz over Cordero.  Cordero has been too inconsistent over his time with Sox.  Ruiz has better upside and younger.  More likely he would get claimed although they both probably would.  If they go with Ruiz and he struggles, I wonder how long they'd stay with him knowing they'd lose him.  Yeah, makes sense that Burr is sent down for now no matter how he finishes ST.  If he deserves it, he'll get his chance before the year's out.  Ruiz and/or Cordero could possibly bring some trade value.  Nothing big but maybe some AAA or AA fills.

It seems pretty straight forward what decisions the Sox have are there are two. This is assuming that Lucroy is the back up catcher which I find to be a near lock and Vaughn starts with the club.

#1 - Last bench spot - Collins or Mendick - The lack of potential playing time for this spot almost makes it seem like we should take on another pitcher. Both are blocked. Perhaps Collins moreso than Mendick. For some reason I think the Sox go with Mendick, but I would go to Collins simply for the fact that he's a left-handed power bat that could pinch hit late in games.

#2 - Last bullpen spot - Lopez, Cordero or Ruiz - Lopez is the guy they have penciled in but he has an option. Cordero has a suspension and is out of options. Ruiz has looked improved and is out of options.  I don't know the rules with Cordero's suspension but this one is a bit more confusing.

Burr still might have a shot, too. Very good minors career and has had his ST moments.  With a good finish, he could sneak in,

You make is sound like he was clingling to life, and is lucky to ever walk again. He was well enough to play. Considering what constitutes reasons for taking some time off these days, his injury isn't as "harrowing" and you make it out to be.

harrowing:  acutely distressing.   But thanks again for your vivid interpretations.  When I first heard the Sox signed Lucroy, I read all I could about herniated neck disks, you clearly did not.  i have also known 2 close associates who succumbed to lower back disk surgeries and know what they went through in the years leading up to it.  I'm also aware about how disk surgery is the very last resort because of its dangers and difficult recovery.  But thanks, doc!  Especially the part of how you knew how he was feeling while he played with it for 3 years.  That is incredibly perceptive of you!

There's a reason Lucroy is on a minor league contract. He has sucked. As much as catching is so coveted, and guys who really can't do much get guaranteed contracts, he couldn't get one You want to say he's been hurt for 5 years, and that is the reason, and he isn't hurt anymore, that's fine with me. But chances are he is a replacement level player at best.

He's on a minor league contract because he's been out of baseball for 2 years after a very harrowing and unusual injury.   He's only sucked when healthy in the depths of your vivid imagination; one that believes I stated he was going to return to an all-star caliber player.

So your counter argument is "shut up"?   The argument was that a lefty hitting catcher that can put up an .850 OPS and be passable defensively is very valuable and I used Joe Mauer as an example...and embarrassingly used actual defensive stats showing he wasn't a very good defender.  How about we say Darren Daulton. He's more like Collins than Mauer...I just thought Mauer was more familiar.  DD had an elite batting eye, decent power and was not a great defensive catcher...and starting at age 28 put up an average of 3 WAR per year for 6 years.  And for those that say Collins is a terrible hitter...1200 career minor league at bats with .840 OPS.   600 NCAA at bats with OPS 1.000.  Career spring training OPS 1.000.   Yes his first fifteen MLB games he was terrible...his last ten in 2019 he put up a .950 OPS.   The skills of elite strike zone understanding and + Power play in the majors...and even with a low batting average could be an .800 OPS regular.  I prefer taking that chance over the chance that 34 year old Jonathon Lucroy in the midst of a five year slump is the answer to some kind of question.

Why do you choose to categorize Lucroy as having a "5 year slump" while knowing that he played for 3 years ('17-'19) with an ever deteriorating herniated neck disk and 2 more years for surgery, recovery, & rehab.  You clearly don't realize how bad a disk has to be to require surgery. The fact that he performed at a decent level for those 3 years is a testament to his grit.  This is a completely new and different stage for him.  His time spent with a herniated disk is over.  The question is how does he perform with a repaired one.  So far, so good, imo.  I can't imagine how much respect he must have among his peers.  Are pitchers that are recovering 12-18 months from TJ surgery in a "slump", as well?

Shameful you reach so low to pump Collins!

Hard to say.  120 is a lot for a catcher who would also catch a lot in the post season. These guys have to get used to the grind of a 162 game schedule again and many will need rest and catcher more so than any position player on the field .

If I had to set an over/under on it I'd say 108 starts at catcher for Grandal. I think more people would bet on the under since injury is always a concern and his knees are already barking.

Definitely a minor concern right now.  Whomever earns buc, the others shouldn't be traded unless its an incredible offer.   There's a few factors that could make a catcher-by-committee scenario not outside the realm of possibility.  I'm not "doom & gloomin", just saying we have good catcher depth, let's keep it until the season plays out a bit.
