QUOTE (Soxy @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 02:19 PM) I used to have a cat, but she kind of hated me. Attached me in my sleep one night and bit me repeatedly. So, she lives with my parents now (my dad is the cat whisperer) and we all are happier for it. This is one of the best paragraphs i've read.

QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 02:03 PM) I have never been a pet person. I bought my mom a miniature Dodson that is awesome though. I love playing with her when I go by my moms house. They are just too much to take care of for myself atleast. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 02:15 PM) Go to an animal shelter and rescue an animal. They do have puppies, but you may also find a dog there a year old or so that you fall in love with. I am glad my home owners association has a limit on the amount of dogs you can have, otherwise my wife, son and occasionally myself, who volunteer at the Plainfield Humane Society, would end up bringing home half the animals we see! We have 2 beagles, both rescue dogs. Sometimes they take work, like our older dog. Her previous owners beat her and yelled at her, which made housetraining very heard. The slightest raising of your voice sent her quivering and peeing. but now she is the sweetest dog around, loves everyone and everything. I commend you for doing the shelter route. My next dog will absolutely be one from a local shelter. As for my current dog, it is a blue merle Shetland Sheepdog (named Dennis, haha). I know it's my dog so i'm biased but he's a beautiful looking dog. I'll post a picture when I'm home. P.S. I'm a huge advocate of giving dogs common people names like Steve, George, Kyle etc...

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 12:48 PM) The response to that is; we're too used to our modern age of communication. If an atomic weapon went off right now, we'd have the pictures on the news within a day, even if it wasn't safe to go in to the area. Put yourself in 1945 Japan. A city has just been completely obliterated out of no where. The country has been at war for years, its supplies are strained, virtually every city except for a handful, including the capitol, have been fire-bombed to pieces. There's no electronic communication. There's no email. There's phone and telegraph service and radio, but the bomb took all of those out. If you want to get pictures of the devastation, you literally have to be in the area, take the film, have it not destroyed by radiation, not die yourself, process them, and then ship them across a bombed-out country. And at the same time, the Russians attacked in Manchuria and overwhelmed the Japanese army, so the army itself was incredibly distracted. The 2nd bomb was being dropped before the Japanese had anything but the most basic of an understanding of what had happened in Hiroshima. I understand that, but they did have means of quick communication. To me at least it seems that if something so major occurred, you;d have every Japanese official telling the government and emperor about it immediately. I understand there may have been doubts cast as to how dramatic it was, but when countless people (i'm assuming) all relay a similar story, I'd think it would be believed. It is really hard for their culture to admit defeat. Even today their suicide rate is the highest in the world. But back then it was even greater. Remember, the whole samurai warrior and code of bushido ideology had been relinquished in the not too distant past.

This is a good thread to have. Nice way to keep track of these throughout the year. Wow Hudson really being fast-tracked huh? Marrero and Kuhn were all-stars in their respective leagues...something definitely is happening in B'Ham b/c they wouldnt be promoting Marrero to not play every day. Cook and even Gartrell really need to be in Charlotte.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 12:17 PM) Not directly. Truman issued repeated statements threatening Japan with something big if they did not surrender, but did not explicity state what he meant. There were other alternatives considered...like testing the bomb on an island near Japan (i.e. the Aleutians or something like that) such that the Japanese could see the power of the weapon without having it deployed against them. The U.S. decided that their supply of the weapons was too limited and the Japanese weren't going to surrender without being hit by it. Again, without having actually seen the alternate decision play out, who knows? As you said, it's one of those situations where you'll never what would have/could have been. However, doesn't it say something about the Japanese when even after the first bomb dropped, it took a second to convince them to surrender? If they were even teetering towards the "let's surrender" option, wouldnt you think after the first bomb dropped it would have led to an almost immediate action by the Japanese? Who knows? But I think it does say a lot for the mentality they had at the time. Regardless, I think it's wrong to criticize that decision because it wasnt like Truman did it recklessly. From all accounts that decision bothered him to the day he died.

Why the f*** can't we get through a tournament game without getting a f***ing red card. 3-0 now. On the verge of becoming embarrassing. They can't seem to finish anything. We need to develop some finishers. Hopefully Altidore can develop into one and doesnt become another Eddie Johnson. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 09:52 AM) How is that not obvious...? Cuz it seems some people have gotten ultra sensitive here lately. I thought it was a joke, but kinda wasn't sure.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 10:33 AM) I'm on the Fire Bob Bradley Bandwagon if Beasley starts another meaningful game after today. Beasley is absolute trash. He's good as an attacking midfielder, but having him used as a back or defending middie is the absolute wrong way to use him (as Bradley's been doing lately) and that is why he has looked poor. -

LMAO "Little did Raul know, but that feeling he had jumping on that hood while the riot swarmed around him was EXACTLY the same feeling Kobe Bryant experienced when the game ended and they had won the NBA championship. And after he gets busted because of this picture and spends a year in juvie, he'll know EXACTLY what that girl in Colorado was feeling..." -

The US has a much better starting lineup today IMO. Kljestan and Beasley are starting for Clark and Feilhaber, I guess Bocanegra must still be hurt. You'd think with the problems at the back they would have taken Hejduk or Edu across with them. -

QUOTE (Nixon @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 05:13 PM) Iran has also been eliminated from the WC. When do the euro matches start again? August? I don't think the dutch play again until early September, really want to get a better look at that team. Without looking it up, the Dutch may have already qualified, so you may not get to see their full team at 100% in those matches. But ya it is August/September and i'll say there are some potential very interesting scenarios setting up in those tables right now. -
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 11:53 PM) Except for the massive track record that suggests that he isn't. Whatever you want to make impulsive, statistically illogical statements based on one year, go ahead. Swisher is no more than an adequate Major League player who is capable of both insane hot streaks and pathetic cold streaks with the ability to play average defense at multiple positions.

South Africa beat New Zealand 2-0 Also, Bahrain beat Uzbekistan 1-0 and Saudi Arabia and North Korea tied at 0-0 which means North Korea qualifies for the World Cup and Bahrain and Saudi Arabia will play each other for the right to play New Zealand for the right to go to the World Cup -
Would love to see Beckham get his first multi-hit game here
-
Meh, i would have let him go a little further. Anyways, helluva game today from Danks. 71 out of his 99 pitches went for strikes too!
-
Leadoff double...I'd still leave Danks in
-
What the hell is he swinging at?
-
Well Danks has 98 pitches. I'd start him in the 8th but I'd have Thornton ready in case he starts to falter.
