QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 03:57 PM) He’s never had a chance to succeed either. Meanwhile, Wise has had multiple opportunities and failed in each and every one. Also, tr.v. cham·pi·oned, cham·pi·on·ing, cham·pi·ons 1. To fight for, defend, or support as a champion: championed the cause of civil rights. See Synonyms at support. You've defended Wise as a better option than Cook. Despite an alarming lack of evidence. I love ya, Chisox, but you're championing Wise. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 09:09 AM) Wise should be in AAA, but it's not his fault that Ozzie and Kenny think he should be playing in Chicago. I doubt he goes out there every day not trying or caring. Hopefully they send him to Charlotte, but until they do you just have to hope he doesnt get much PT but when he does that he does well. This is really on Kenny and Ozzie, not on Wise. If that's the way you see it, I guess I can't really argue. I have nothing against the guy, but no matter who you are, if the best evidence you can offer me is what you did the previous season as a 27 year old in AA, I'm not gonna line up to buy you as succeeding at the major league level in the present.

QUOTE (Nixon @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 04:16 PM) 3-1 final. US looked tired at the end there. Don't understand some of the substitutions/starting line up. Agreed. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 04:17 PM) I'm so f***ing sick of getting red cards in big f***ing competitions. Last World Cup, Olympics, here. It's enough already. I know, I don't know what it is either. The challenges that have sent us off have been marginal reds at that too. It's very disappointing, as I truly feel we are making tremendous strides but every time we are in a position challenge and prove ourselves, we do something like that to de-rail it. -

Well Italy takes a 2-1 lead...gonna be tough to come back. Hard to play a team like them with 10 guys. Shame, this happened in 2006 also. -

Clark and Boernstein should never have started to begin with. Bocanegra, Beasley, Kljestan or Torres should have been in there. Of course the red occured against Gattusso. I really hate how he plays the game. -
They could always do one of those day games at Wrigley night games at the Cell type deals. NYY/NYM did it a few years back and ESPN covered it for 4 days non-stop

QUOTE (Nixon @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 01:49 PM) What? Why on Earth does he need a reason beyond his patient requested it? Morals/Ethics maybe. There's a reason late-term abortion has been banned in a good portion of the country/world. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2009 -> 05:51 PM) To answer this in more detail...AJ's contract runs through the end of the 2010 season (note to people wanting to deal him - he has a 6 team NTC. I'm betting 1 of those teams is the Giants. Anywho...) AJ isn't likely to be moved before the trade deadline in 2010. He's not worth as much to any other team as he is to us, unless they're really desperate for a catcher. He'll be paid $6.25 million next year, so while he's not ridiculously priced, that is expensive for a .750ish OPS guy in this market. If Flowers is ready...then here's what's likely to happen with him. He'll stay in the minors through September 1, and he'll be added to the 40 man and given a callup in September when the rosters expand. He'll be expected to play some winterball, and he'll have a shot to take the backup/RH catcher role out of ST next year. With AJ under contract they'll be patient and allow him to platoon, to get at bats and adapt to the bigs without being dumped in, and hopefully he'll learn some stuff about the pitching staff and defense from AJ while he's still here. It's possible they could look in to keeping AJ around as a part time player in 2011 if AJ is cheap enough. That definitely seems like the ideal scenario. Granted, I have not seen him yet, but he at least to me he hasnt had the "wow" type of performance at Birmingham that Beckham, Danks and even Retherford have had. I'm very skeptical on him being ready right now. I'd love to see him get some ABs in September though.

Should the U.S. adopt English as the Official Language?

QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 11:52 AM) would this have an effect on native americans, eskimos or hawaian islanders. don't we have special arrangement with these true americans about languages and laws. Aren't Indian reservations considered and treated as sovereign and independent territories? -

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 11:45 AM) Please don't take this as me being snarky or anything because it's an honest question - what would the point of it be? We've never had an "official" anything for our whole existence. I can't think of any reasons outside of nationalism. A significant majority of countries around the world have an official language. It's fairly standard, so it's not as if this is a novel concept. Personally, i'm just not thrilled with the fact that people here can vote and take citizenship tests in other languages. There are kids in public schools who don't know a word of English. It just puts a burden on the teachers. I know when we moved to Germany we all made an effort to learn the language. I was put in an English speaking international school but we still tried to learn. It just bothers me that more and more people are coming to this country and flat out refusing to integrate themselves at all into the country. Keeping your culture, kanguage, values, it's all fine and should be encouraged, but I personally would like it if we adopted English as our official language. If you want to become a citizen or vote, you should have to do so in our language etc... -

Wow! What a game between Egypt and Brazil. And what a way to win it at the end. A handball in the box gives Brazil a PK and Kaka converts to give Brazil a 4-3 victory! I read this was the first time Brazil had ever given up three goals with Dunga at the helm. Shame, if this ended in a draw the door for the US really would have opened up. -
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 09:14 AM) Are you actually championing a 31-year old career journeyman AAAA as a better option, then a 28-year old kid who’s yet to fail at the big league levelwho's yet to succeed at the AAA level? LOL. Nice logic. First off, I don't believe I "championed" Wise at all in that post, but good try (I actually stated twice that he should be in AAA). Secondly, just because Cook "has yet to fail at the big league level" means he's a good option? Hell, with that logic let's call up Shelby or Gartrell since they have yet to fail too. Third, I listed two options who should be called up. It continues to baffle me the man-love people get for certain non-prospects in this organization to the extent where they feel they will succeed at the major league level for no real reason. How many 28 year old players hit at .250 at AA and go on to have solid major league careers? I get it, people here love David Cook cuz he can play CF and had a good year last year. But look at reality, the odds of him being a major league player are almost non-existant. I'd call up Kroger, Restovich, Phillips, maybe even Daryl Ward before even considering calling up David Cook right now. All he's done this year is jump Lillibridge on the depth chart. It might be different if he was having a year like last year, or if he was doing this in Charlotte, but he's not, pure and simple.

QUOTE (beck72 @ Jun 14, 2009 -> 09:43 PM) I don't blame Wise. He's trying to play with what he's got. What he's got is a game suited for AAAA. But I mostly blame Kenny for not getting a viable 4th OFer option who can hit, get on base, play defense, has speed and can handle the bat. Wise has speed and can play defense. Agreed. Wise should be in AAA, but it's not his fault that Ozzie and Kenny think he should be playing in Chicago. I doubt he goes out there every day not trying or caring. Hopefully they send him to Charlotte, but until they do you just have to hope he doesnt get much PT but when he does that he does well. This is really on Kenny and Ozzie, not on Wise. And LOL @ the people who want to bring up Cook. Really? I know Wise hasnt done s***, but you're advocating bringing up a 28 year old hitting .250 in AA with very limited experience even in AAA? Really? If they did indeed call up anyone to replace him it'd would have to be Restovich or Phillips (if he can play the corner OF spots).

So neither South Africa or Iraq looked any good today, although S. Africa was clearly the better team. New Zealand was also just awful. I know Spain is freaking loaded right now, but I expected a little better of a match. If Spain tried in the second half that score could have been 8 or 9 to nothing. Also, apparently Brazil is leaving Ronaldinho and a couple others home for this tournament. Strange. Maybe the U.S. could eek out a win or draw in the tourney. If they can get 1 pt from Italy/Brazil and beat Egypt they could potentially advance to the semis, which should be considered an accomplishment. -
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 14, 2009 -> 12:12 AM) Doesn't matter, he's too old. He's 28 and hitting .250 at AA...yes, he is.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 05:14 PM) Confederations Cup starts tomorrow. I'm excited that ESPN is showing the games. It will give me some entertainment. Who else will be watching/paying attention? I'll watch. The US really got screwed in being placed with Brazil, Italy and Egypt. The other group has New Zealand, South Africa and Iraq (and a 4th who I forget)...talk about talent differential. -

Hanley Ramirez Albert Pujols Ian Kinsler Joe Mauer Adam Jones Dan Haren Zach Greinke Josh Johnson Roy Halladay Stephen Strasburg I'd put Lincecum on the pitchers list but I just dont trust him staying healthy

75%, 69% whatever...that seems awfully fishy considering international groups were expected a close result.
