More information about him here. There was a discussion about him a while back http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=70280

QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 01:40 PM) Youre right how could I forget about all those clutch quality starts we got from him in must-win games. Then again he did have plenty of 10-12 strikeout performances and ate up a lot of innings when he was already down 5-0, so we must give him credit for something positive. While we thought we were getting a great value in the market, Javy was laughing all the way to the bank and searching for a desitnation to retire with his family. Vasquez was a more of a ME player than OCab and Big Hurt combined. When we signed him to the extension, it was market value, maybe even a little under so there was nothing wrong with the signing. What's funny is you are agreeing he wasn't that great of a pitcher in his time here yet are still upset we didn't get more for him? Ok, that not making any sense aside, we received a pretty good package. Tyler Flowers has potential to be a stud and Gilmore has tremendous upside. We did very well in that deal.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 11:44 AM) The "outrage" isn't about him going "on a date". It's the fawning coverage... AWWWWW... OBAMA GOES OUT ON A DATE! DROOOOLZZZZZ! :wub: :wub: It's stupid and didn't need reported on at all. Then you'll be happy to see that on msn.com right now on the front page are links to an article on "A Day in the Life of President Obama" as well as a video of "Grabbing burgers with Obama"

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:28 AM) She waterboarded him into a lie. He really hates gay marriage, but he was forced to tell a lie to make it stop. And thus illustrating my point about how ironic it is when all you get upset about someone making a teleprompter reference. Thank you. I know, it's probably different though.

So I just found out one of the contestants on season 2 of Paris Hiltons BFF show I went to college with and know haha. Strange, but not totally surprising somehow

QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 09:07 PM) Oh, I get it... who cares. Well look at all the attention it grabbed here. I find it funny that after 3 or 4 years of Dems doing it to Bush for seemingly anything under the sun, that little things like this become such nuisances to them now. For the record, I don't care about the teleprompter thing at all, I just find humor and irony in the responses that it garners when mentioned.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 11:36 PM) Does Arkansas have the death penalty still? They do according to wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital_punishment_in_Arkansas

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 04:08 PM) Why? Too much Halo for my taste but that looks pretty bad ass. I guess because nothing jumped out at me is all.

QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 04:46 PM) Extending Javy Vasquez and then failing to trade him for higher value. Fail. As for what is most frustrating, I will agree with others that it is our seemingly epic inability to hit pitchers we are facing for the first time

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 08:32 AM) Sarcasm, i hope? Why would he be being sarcastic?

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 11:47 AM) lol wut Ya i read it apparently stemmed from events that occurred during a "drinking session".

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 01:52 PM) *yawn* QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 01:57 PM) I never heard this one before. *Laughs* Oh, the irony...

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 12:00 AM) What's with Linebrink in the 9th inning? I know we had a 4 run lead, but Jenks didn't even get up after Thome's homer. Are we showcasing Linebrink in some save situations (or close to it) as trade bait for teams looking for a closer? Or are we possibly thinking about trading Jenks? I'm probably looking to much into this, but whatever. Nice win tonight! Gotta love late inning wins. It was a 4 run lead. Why would you run your closer out there if you don't need to?
-
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 04:22 PM) 9-4 would be nice. And impossible. I'm fine with 7-5. That's still almost a 60% winning percentage

Interesting that Ozzie includes a nickname for Jose Martinez, which translated into English means "Espresso". HAHA

QUOTE (almagest @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 02:01 PM) None of those options are better than playing for a high-profile D1 college team So? I mean, I agree with you, but the point is that they have options. I'm just tired of seeing people blaming the big bad NBA/NCAA for "denying their right to make a livelihood" (which has been mentioned by two different people). QUOTE (almagest @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 02:01 PM) and please don't tell me you're trying to argue that a player's draft position isn't improved by attending a major college program because of one player who *might* be a top 10 pick this year due to a pretty weak draft class. I never said that, at all actually. I was just pointing out an example of someone who took another route other than the NCAA. And anyways, since he was essentially the first to do it, there really is nothing to compare. -
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 11:54 AM) Well which one is cheaper? I think there is a black label too. Red, Black, Green, Gold, Blue

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 11:42 AM) I feel like people are free to believe and support whatever they want - but - if you're going to be inconsistent and support the death penalty, fine, but don't try to pretend it's not inconsistent and then talk down to people who make note of it. It's like, please spare me the morality lectures and talk about respect for human life etc., and then give me the "innocent life to criminal life" answer. Well I think that is actually completely acceptable if that is someone's rationale. I really feel they are two completely separate issues. Also, basically what you're saying then is that if you are pro-choice, you have to be pro-death penalty? Or at least not anti-death penalty?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 10:56 AM) Blue label or red label? Blue label is ridiculously awesome
-
QUOTE (Soxy @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 11:12 AM) It's true--I don't understand how people are pro-life and pro-death penalty. I know lots of people are, but it's always baffled me. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 11:34 AM) I agree 100%. I dont know, I guess I disagree. I don't really have a firm stance on either issue, but to me they are two completely different issues and I can easily see how people could feel one way about one and completely different about the other
-
QUOTE (Soxy @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 10:49 AM) I think that is just such crap. If you're pro-life be pro-life--you can't just be pro-innocent life. Hell, if those people believe in the doctrine of original sin even the fetuses aren't innocent life. I wasn't saying that's what I believed, just clarifying what those people (probably) believe. But based on what you're saying, you don't leave any room for people who are pro-life on the abortion issue to have an opinion on the death penalty or euthanasia other than be against it. Which I will disagree with.

QUOTE (G&T @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 08:50 AM) Well the government is "fluoridating" but that's so I don't have to brush my teeth (right?). But if they are going to "flourinate" then I think we are all going to die. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJ99LviOAjw...feature=related

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 31, 2009 -> 09:45 PM) I never have, and never will, understand the hypocrisy of abortion clinic bombers/shooters. "You play God and kill innocent life, that's wrong, therefore I'm going to kill you" You just answered your own question. They believe the people they are killing (the abortion doctors) are not innocent life.
