QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 04:27 PM) I can honestly say I've never seen the original King Kong, but that was the most impressive trailer I've ever seen. Let's hope that this film will do it's job, and if you see it and enjoy it you will then decide to see the original.

Yeah, that annoying morning guy on The Loop right now, Bird or something like that (nice "radio voice" the guy has), said Monday more than likely. I guess they are just busting butt to get the stuff set-up properly. I'm guessing Johnny is still living in La-La land?

I make the bold prediction right now that it becomes one of the highest grossing pictures of all time. It's King Kong fer cryin' out loud.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 01:57 PM) This is supposed to be the most expensive movie ever made. They better hope it does well. I don't think they have anything to worry about at all, it's B.O. take is going to be massive. We are talking about one of the most beloved stories ever, in th eform of one of the most beloved screen icons ever, in the hands of a director that loves the original more than anything, and at the top of his game and is proving to be one of the greatest directors ever. This film will be huge. I'm not so sure it's the most expensive ever, but it did go over budget, which surprised everybody.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 12:15 PM) Saw the trailer in front of Jarhead. It looks so cool. Jack Black is perfectly cast for the role IMHO. It also has Tom Hanks kid Colin Hanks. That's been my main complaint all along, is that Black is 100% against what Carl Denham was in the original.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 10:10 AM) That was unreal. Thanks for posting! Were there dinosaurs in the original King Kong? On the island, there is a stegosaurus that charges the rescue party. Kong battles a t-rex and a pterydatctyl. In this version you also see Adrian Brody fighting giant insects. That is the famous lost scene from the original movie. Back when it was originally released in '33 there was a scene when the party fell from the log bridge, they landed in a cavern that was filled with giant spiders. The scene was too tough for the audiences of the day, so Cooper and co. cut it out. The scene has been considered "lost" since then and has been the dream discovery of many collectors. Jackson did an updated version for his film, and for the release of the original KONG he has recreated the scene using the original techniques and mixing in new techiniques. It is an additional feature on the disc and NOT included in the film though. But those who have seen it say that it is seemless and you can't tell where the original film and the newly shot footage fit together, unless you know otherwise.

That's a hell of an article, and a brilliantly written final paragraph! That's also one damn scary and all sorts of "wrong" little attachment Sony has added to their CD's. It is funny, because if they REALLY think that will stop the pro's for 2 days, they are WAY out of touch. It will only hurt the kid in their bedroom, the first time he/she encounters it. The only guy, still a computer novice, will completely buckle to that thing, but no kid or pro will for very long. Stupid Sony.

Sitting here getting the new version of Quicktime, as it took about 5 minutes, I realized how much I missed the days of these "Free programs" taking a second to download and knowing that they wouldn't have a million adwares attached to them, and a million files that wanted to attach to them. Then it got my mind rolling: Video Stores: Back around 1986 when I first got my license, there was nothing better than driving to my local video store and renting videos. It was called Video Corner. I'm a DVD junky, but you those days, nothing was better than getting a video. It was almost better than the theater. The picture was worse, usually fuzzy and cropped, smaller than the Big Screen, but for some reason it was better. It caused me to lead a sheltered teenage life. A Cell Phone-less World: Mine goes with me everywhere, I almost panick when I don't have it. Sunday Dinners: As a kid dinner was in between 3:00-5:00 on Sundays. Especially during the cooler months. It was usually a big meal. Then around 6:30 was popcorn. Being an adult now, that has been forced to change due to work scheduals. Mom and Pop Record Shops: Couple that with the "can I order it for you" and that actually meaning something. Now days, when a Best Buy Music Expert helping me in the aisle asks what I am looking for, and I say "the new Hanoi Rocks" and they search their system, and tell me they don't have it "but I can order it for you", I laugh and say "yup, so can I". Yes, it's easier to get things now...and maybe that is part of the problem. Magazines actually having a purpose: Before the 'net, I would mever let a subscription slide. Now...no magazines come to my house anymore. Shame, as I still prefer 'zines.

If this thing ends up being half what the trailer is promising... oh...my... ...absolutley AMAZING!!! http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/king_kong/ p.s. this is coming from a guy who at the age of 5 had a King Kong poster gracing his wall and has loved the original film for 30 years now. Jackson has hit all of the right notes it looks like.

I've been kind of ignoring this story since it started. I see "France" in the headlines and I shrug my shoulders and pass on by it. But maybe it is time to catch up on it before their government looses it's heads. And no, the recent Iraq crap isn't my reasons for disliking the French. My disliking of them goes back to when I was in High School. They might suck bigtime, but hopefully they can get s*** together over there. I mean, without them being as the French should be, where is our example of how the perfect person should live?

QUOTE(3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 11:20 PM) I heard they make jack from record sales, and make their money from the concerts Bands? That is true. That is also what most bands use to live on while on the road, the money from the merch sales. They pad their riders with things they may need, and try and get as much food as they can, but during the travel times, they live on t-shirt sales.

Pshaw...the story of my life. It's a wonder I have two kids...

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 12:03 PM) I have decided from here on out that my Magic 8ball will be making all of my major life decisions for me. Well, this should make for some enjoyable moderating on these boards.

Oh yeah, I have to mention that when I am downloading, it is usually out of print stuff, import stuff I can't afford the $40 Japanese price tag for, or stuff I just can't seem to find any place. The worst though is when I grab a CD from an "online music source", then absolutley LOVE the band...but then know full and well that at the moment I don't have the funds for purchase. I try to remember the ones I really love and the ones I fully intend to purchase the legit release. I then turn around 2 months later and stare at about 50 bands... Current band I am in love with promotion time: THE FORGOTTEN BOYS

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 04:46 PM) I don't understand how you (Addy) can possibly empathize with multi-millionaire artists. Until the moment arrives when live shows--which compile a large percentage of an artists revenues--are no longer sold out, I won't give a second thought to the illegal distribution of music. And many will agree with me--artists complaining about losing several million, whereas still earning a sizable paycheck, is similiar to Sprewell claiming 10+ million can barely provide for his family. But you're dealing with the minority when you talk about the artists making it big, the vast minority. Would you believe that the last I knew of Slayer was still working day jobs? This may have changed in the mid 90's, but at the time that they did South Of Heaven and Seasons In The Abyss they were still taking leaves of absense to hit the road. It took GnR a few years before they saw a penny from Appetite, and they talked quite often about how rough it was to get off the road, after being wined and dined and given the royalty treatment everywhere while on the road, to suddenly be finding themselves going back to their dingy apartments and bugging the manager and roadies for money for food, since they had all been paid, but GnR had yet to see a dime of the riches they had earned for everybody else. Just because a band sells millions does NOT mean that they are rolling in the money. EVERYBODY else has to get paid before the band will. Springsteen has years upon years of album and merch sales to live off of. Bowling For Soup has only one really successful album, and I lay money on it I make more in a year than they do, and I am NOT a rich guy. I'm torn on where I stand. I try and buy when I can, but that isn't the only way I get my music. But I also get promos due to my connections, I also get stuff just sent to me due to those connections. There are not as many as there used to be, but oh well. I also don't get the comparison thing either. How on earth can Star Wars III get released, a double disc set with fancy extras such as coins and lithographs, and be sold for $15. Look at the list of contributors to that dang film. HUNDREDS of people worked on that damn thing. A new album by, lets say Velvet Revolver, will probably also cost $15. You have what, 5 guys in the band, a manager, a producer (unless the band does that), an engineer (unless the producer does that), and then whoever does the mastering. Plus maybe a photographer and cover artist. You end up with MAYBE 15 people at the most actually being hands on with that product. But the cost is the same? The argument can't be used that the movie will make more money on it's theatrical run, because I have picked up numerous cult films for $9.99, and I am SURE that they didn't sell more tickets than VR will sell albums. The music industry is full of crooks and victims, and the bands are the victims.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 05:26 PM) Worth the 50 cents. I also went to Barnes and only saw the Tribune book, but had to hold off because I only had enough for a book I needed. How is that Jenna Jameson autobiography?

Simple way of fixning many of the problems is lower the price, and put out a better product. I bought the Jet release "Get Born", dumped about $16 of the thing, and open it to find no real insert, just a crappy picture. Where are the lyrics? That happened about 4 times in a row. I will buy a band I am familiar with and that I know I will be happy with. But days of "taking chances" are gone now. When I find a band I really like, I support them the best way I can, I buy merch from them. If I go see a band, I buy a shirt and other items there. I know they get that money, and not the company. I try to support the Indie labels, and I detest buying from the majors. I have had my material bootlegged and sold without my knowledge, but I still prefer to give my stuff away. I'll never get rich on it, I'll never be able to pay any bills with it, so if giving it away means getting it to more people, then I am 100% cool with that.

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 10:38 AM) what if you can't read? Is there good pictures? Well, since you posted here I am guessing you CAN read, though how well is probably up for debate. But yes, there are pretty pictures. No brail though.

Critic mentioned this yesterday, so I grabbed a copy of the Sun-Times this morning. If you haven't picked it up yet, do so. Nice overview of the post season, and a nice win/loss run down on the year, and decent paper stock.
