Sucker for the old BBall, so I actually had to say Southside. The pix I have seen of the place just captivate me, as do all the old parks. Not saying anything in the favor of the dump on the other side of town though. But ah, I remember being a young kid at Southside Park, such good times I had. I like the new joint though. I also love Miller Stadium. Man, if those cats were still in the AL, I would hit a ton of games since that place is closer to home for me and MUCH easier to get to than Comiskey.

:fthecubs Oh, that hurts. One of the things I had to respect Gov. Bogdonovich (sic) about was recently he said that he was a Cubs fan through and through and no matter what, he would always be on their side. He never came out directly and said it, but you could tell he was getting at saying he would never root for the Sox. Gotta respect that, in some strange way. :fthecubs

They were also the last to get caught, as I am sure many other people have thrown games since then.

Is this book coming out? I do a search for the author name and get nothing on Amazon. But it is no secret that the Black Sox scandal may have hurt the Sox, and baseball to a degree, but it did wonders for the world of sports as it exposed the ugly side. Ganbling and game throwing was all over the place, and players in those days, contrary to what we may believe now, were in it for the money just as much as they are now. Difference is that now the owners can pay the big bucks, back then they didn't want to pay them. GLORY OF THEIR TIME shows just how much loyalty there was amonst players to the teams. How often do you read in that book of somebody just jumping ship because another team offered more money, and the very next day they were on the other team?

Do the reporters on ESPN radio know anything? They, and the Sox beat writer, seem to be standing behind it being Buddy Bell. But everything they were saying was stuff talked about a few days ago. Tom Share was even asking how much in the running LaRussa was, and I thought Kenny pretty much killed that one in the press conference. :fthecubs

I think Jerry has seen what happened on the other side of town and is willing now to do what is right. If he doesn't go out and get somebody good, especially if the Cubs get to the Series (which I fear they will), he almost has no choice to get the best there will be out there. In all honesty though, I am not expecting Torre to get fired. Steinbrenner will shoot off his mouth, but I don't think even he is so arrogant that he would let Torre get away, the city would probably not show up next year! How funny would it be though if he did let Torre go, we got him, and Steinbrenner took Manuel!

Do you think we could trick them into giving us Ichiro? We could just tell them "ya know, he plays outfield, Carlos plays outfield, Carlos is a BIG strong guy, Ichiro is just a tiny little guy. You know, Carlos is younger." etc., etc., etc... Maybe I should give Kenny a call...

Heh, I always wondered if any of the players took the rivalries as serious as the fans! I guess some of them do, and that makes me feel a little bit better. Nasty comments, but you know it was partially done tongue in cheek. Thanks for the advice, I guess I will have to register.

The Yanks just haven't had the passion over these past two years. The teams with heart are just beating the crap out of them. It sounds like they were never really in the game.

Can't read it, and don't care to register, guess I am lazy. Any chance of pasteing in the text?

What a beautiful mug! Thanks, I'll save it and add it tomorrow! But the Godzilla stays as the avatar, it's on all my boards. But yeah, Kid can hang in the sig.

"The Braves are going to engage in some serious ownage in that series. Flubbies dont have a prayer....or a clue for that matter. " That's kind of the problem, the Cubs don't realize that they shouldn't be playing all that good, yet they keep going. There is an old story by the brilliant author Robert Bloch called "A Case Of The Stubborns". In it there is an old man who is so stubborn that he doesn't realize he is dead. He keeps getting up out of bed, going down the stairs, joining his family for meals and what-not. All the while just decomposing and being too stubborn to just die. Finally at breakfast one morning his nose falls off, and he gets the idea. I see this Cub team being very similar to that story. They are too stubborn to realize that they should be dead by now, but they just keep going, and going, and going...

Remember Parque and his bunny hop on the mound to get the dirt out of his spikes?

I was born in Chicago, and now live in Harvard, which is about 1-1 1/2 hours outside of Chicago. I liked the Cubs as a kid, but then I got older and grew a brain and went for the White Sox around...I don't know when. A huge part of my life was anti-baseball due to how it stopped being a game and became more serious as I got older. So I left the world of BBall and went to my main love, my guitar. But or me, I just hate the Cubs. I don't care if they are a Chicago team and I should root for the Chicago team. I don't live in Chicago. I love the history of the Sox, and the whole true baseball style that the Sox are. I also don't like the National League, so I am rooting all American this year. The only way I might change is if there is a Yankees/Giants series. Not a huge Bonds fan, but I have a feeling that with the loss of his Dad, that man will play like hell on fire if he hits the Series!!!

Where are the guys from the previous years? Where is Sirotka and Parque now? Are they in anybodies kiddie leagues?

I use the same name on the "official" board. But I got tired of all the trolls, and somebody from here mentioned this board (in a cloak and dagger way) and said person sent me the link, and now I am here. Thanks for the welcome!

I like Jerry, but I do think that it might be time to move on. Hell, it is time, obviously. I just don't think it was all his fault, and find most fault in the crappy hitting (or lack of hitting) this year. But eh, what can ya do? That being said though, for the first time since I found my love for baseball and all things White Sox again (believe it or not, '95!!!), this is the best I have felt about the team and the future yet. I really think that whatever moves are made this winter will seriously show the other organizations that the Sox plan to take it all next year. Though, for the first time in my 33 years I might just be being a little optimistic and this time next year I will be placing a sleeping bag for myself on the north bound lane of the Kennedy.

Oh man!!! I love that avatar!!! LOL!!! Yeah, but the 90's Indians looked pretty good for a bit there. Though, maybe it was because the rest of us stunk...

Hey all, new here! I was just wondering, do you think that there is any chance of them looking into Hargrove? I am not too crazy about the guy, but he and the Tribe beat the crud out of us for a few years there. Not sure if he would be any good either, but since he is now jobless, could he be in the running? I myself hope Torre comes looking for a job, but I would also bet that before he signs with anybody we would see Steinbrenner go back to the Billy Martin "you're fired, hey come manage us" revolving door mentality. Plus, i am sure Torre will come with a price tag that Williams would never want to pay. But atleast he could stick with pinstripes. :fthecubs
