I had that in the text to my message, but being a new guy here I wasn't too sure if that would offend anybody on the board, and I didn't want to be labeled a troublemaker so soon! :fthecubs

When was his first year to wear that putrid blue? Sammy went to the t-ball league in, was it '90? They both were on the team for years, either way. Or do you think that when Shammie turned into the hitmachine that Grace got uppity? This is the great thing about this game, everybody has such different views on all these people. I just always figured Grace was almost universally loved and that was a big reason that they have been saying he has a job almost wherever he chooses to go. Is there anybody in BBall that IS more or less universally loved, or hated? Aside from Conseco and Bell that is. They are gone, so I guess they don't count. If they do count, I guess you could mention Ty Cobb to the hate list.

I went to the park this year with my boss. Free tickets, ya know. But anyway, not being a Cub fan made it a little bit better. I had to use the bathroom, so I waited until Shammie to get up to bat. Then I went on my way, passed a few blowing tumbleweeds in the tunnels, and found an empty bathroom and used the stalls. So if you happen to find yourself in that dump, just go when the Cubs are at bat! As a kid those bathroom's terrified me! Nothing like being 6 years old and seeing some 75 year old dunk guys shlang hanging in your face.

Phew! So I am not the only one cornfused by this thing!!! I was afraid I was going to get stale peanuts thrown at me! Shocking to see a $150 tag on something that even hardened Sox fans would be confused by!

"There is no "i" in team, but there's an M and and E on the ends of that asshole's name." Are we talking about Grace? There's no "M" at the end of his name. Seriously though, I always heard that he was all about the team, and that was one of the problems he had with Sammy was that Sammy was all about himself. I have heard nothing other than Grace being a rock solid guy who is extremely down to earth and all for the team.

If the Sox made an Ichiro trade, that would EASILY garuantee taht I would find myself making the long trip to the park quite a few more times in the year. I LOVE watching that guy play, as there isn't anybody else in the game anything like him.
-
Zimmer would be cool, but isn't he thinking retirement? You may have been joking, but the guy knows the game like few others.
-
You're kidding, Cotts posts on this board? So do some of the other guys? Heh, that's pretty cool. Who else posts on this board that is "connected" with the team? I think this is the board that I heard about when mentioned as to what site Dave Wills reads. As for prospects, I really have no idea. I felt horrible for Cotts on that Yankee start, as you could see the guy will be a really good pitcher, but that was just a REALLY bad situation for any prospect. Ya just wanted to give him a "noogie" after they pulled him and tell him to hang in there.

Hey, I agree with ya! I love Pettite! Always have since his first year and I saw that pick-off move. Granted, he isn't as lethal with it as he was in the first year, but the guy still is a definite favorite of mine! He makes it hard to hate the Yankees, but Jeter makes it a little bit easier.

Follow this link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...gory=24890&rd=1 It says "legendary number 21". Who wore the number 21? I have never been good in the number game, but looking back, Appling wasn't 21, nor was Aparicio. Was it Minoso, Pierce...Fox? I can't find anyplace that tells who wore what number through the years. I consider myself somewhat of a "student" of the game, but the numbers are lost on me, and my favorite period to read up on was before the numbers were used. Anybody? Hell man, went back and had another look, that is a Cubs jersey, ain't it? Sosa is 21, right? WTF. If this is so, how do I delete this thread?
-
See, i would have said something similar to that, but in this day and age you might find yourself being run out of the country by the modern day McCarthy's.
-
With the Yankees losing Clemens, I would think they would want to hang onto Pettite.
-
Heh, brutal. They need renovation, without a doubt. Problem is that even that won't get that many more seats into the park. I would hate to see the place completely destroyed, as I am a freak for all things old in baseball. I love the history of the game as much as I love the game itself. So, if they could sell it off to a new owner, for some other reasons and preserve and update the building a bit, then that would be cool. But I hate to see it, like any other old building, torn down.
-
O.K., I still think he is being a b**** though.
-
Wow, that is pathetic. I mean, isn't part of Baseball that there is no time clock? So, does he have the same complaint if his team happened to be out there for an extra long inning hitting everything the Yanks put up there? If his team actually had HIT, then his pitcher would have to sit for an extra long time also. Good thing they didn't hit I guess. :fthecubs

Kinda lost me there South. He isn't really close to the poverty level, and if he is looking to $12.5 mil, that isn't 50% more. Ya know? If in our world, you are making $20 thou, and you can get mid to upper $30 thou, that is a SERIOUS pay increase. A person really has to struggle to make ends meet on $20 a year, but with mid-$30 a year, if you are asingle, you can do alright for yourself. Yup, I am from Harvard, but have only been so for a year now. Born in Chicago, but lived my whole life in Crystal Lake. If you know somebody from Crystal Lake who has been there for years, and is about 33, chances are good that I know them. But I only know a few people from Harvard, and oddly enough I knew them when I was a teenager and we all lived in Crystal Lake, and I just found them again recently when I moved to Harvard! Strange, our kids were on the same T-Ball league! Last time I saw them we were running from the cops together, now we are at our kids T-Ball games!

"A source in the Colon camp told the Daily Southtown that, although the pitcher would like to return to the South Side, the Sox's three-year, $30 million-plus offer, was not enough money." I don't get it man, never will. If he wants to stay, and he really likes it here, how in the world can a position for 3 years and 30 FRIGGIN" MILLION DOLLARS NOT BE ENOUGH!?! I am pretty sure a person can survive on $10,000,000 a year. If that is the case, and he isn't happy with that much money, fine, let him go. Sorry, but if we are offering him more money than has been paid out before (to a pitcher or whoever), and it is obvious we are looking to make a run, and we are not just sitting back on our asses, and he isn't happy about it, then he ain't here for a "team" type of thing anyway, and good riddance. Just my opinion, and when I take over the Sox as GM, then it will matter, but until then, what the hell do I know?

I think Grace is great, and he was always a sore spot for me as I hated the Cubs (still do), but I always thought he was one of the coolest guys in baseball. Anybody remember that rainout the Cubs had, and when the team was sitting in the dugout, Grace was in the outfield playing games with the fans and giving away bats, balls, and anything else he had to give? Always seemed to be a guy who loved what he did and loved the people that came to see him do it. On the managerial spot, down the road I think he would be a great manager, but this Sox team needs an experienced mind NOW. Our players are good enough to go all the way, they just lack direction, and Grace (or anybody) in their first year won't know exactly how to point the direction. We need somebody who knows how to do it from that side of the bench.
-
I was joking. Obviously he was a great player, but he is a lowsy announcer. They respect the lowsy announcers, but not the great players. I still think he would make a great talk show host with Hughes though.
-
Haven't the Cubs only retired like 2 other numbers? Heck, they have a Harry statue outside and nothing for Ernie Banks or other important Cub players. Santo's number was retired for his announcing skills, not playing skills.
-
Hell, what of Francona even?
-
Check the last paragraph: "In an unrelated story, American League sources speaking on condition of anonymity say the Chicago White Sox have already narrowed their field of candidates to succeed their fired manager, Jerry Manuel, to two — former Phillies’ skipper Terry Francona, and, the favorite, former Tigers’ and Rockies’ manager Buddy Bell." Hmmmmmm...how good is Bell all you Baseball experts? Ya like him, or no?
-
Heh, lsdfsf ashgsaf ahgf...oh...sorry, had a foot in my mouth...heh...
-
I missed whatever it was that happened to make the team hate him so much. Why have they said there would be a mutiny if he was hired? What is the deal with the guy?
-
I just respect the fact that Bog-boy will stick to his team. I know it is easy to do now that they are in play-offs, but he even says that if he were to root for the other team, that would be lying, and if he can't be trusted with his team loyalty, how could he be trusted in his job.
