According to Fegan reporting they seem determined to give Kelenic one last shot

without Acuna they would have to keep Hill

angel Martinez making good contact  hardest hit ball of the game so far

    and erased

I’m totally aligned with this approach.  This team is not making the playoffs.  Hill can go play in the minors.  I’d rather see if the Sox can get anything out of a 26 year old former top prospect than watch a 30 year old AAAA backup CF play defense in losses.

Any real improvement for this team this year will come if the starting pitching is OK and can keep them in games.

Be very afraid friends and neighbors.

It’s not going to be pretty.  I think Fedde’s first half of 2024 was the fluke of the century.  They only signed him again cuz he was dirt cheap.

Not sure Poles has earned our trust, but I don’t see him overpaying for Crosby. His quotes seem to indicate taking a more measured approach, trying to walk that tight rope of getting better now, while also not making future years much harder with roster construction. Think he knows they have the QB and Coach locked down, which ideally gives them a somewhat long term window for success.

Like almost every other fan, I’d be excited if they acquired Crosby, but I think we all know deep down it’s the fun move, but probably not the smartest

It really wouldn’t be.  He’ll be turning 29 right before the season starts.  It wouldn’t be a surprise if his best days are behind him.   I wouldn’t go after Hendrickson either as he’s even older (31) unless he is cool with a one year deal.  I’d rather just use draft capital on young players and keep the train rolling.

The  Padres got a lot more than just Thorpe for 1 year of Soto
And if they didn't get enough, they mitigated well by getting 2 years of Cease.   And they paid a lot more for 2 months of Tanner Scott than 2 years of Cease.
Getz has had the better leverage position in most of these trades; he needs  use it.

I think this was mentioned numerous times by posters back when the Cease trade went down, but it seems even more likely to be the truth now.  You had two good organizations with good scouting both willing to deal away a top rated pitching prospect in Thorpe, even though his minor league numbers were excellent.  It’s almost like both the Yankees and Padres knew while Thorpe could dominate hitters in the minors, his stuff simply wouldn’t fare well against major league hitters so they sold high on him.

The score isn’t really ugly.  The offensive performance however…

I spoke too soon.  But this is usually how ST games go once the starters take a seat.  Although Paez has to last on the active roster for a bit to remain under Sox control.

He'll be in Korea in a few years imo. He stinks. Was not impressed in person or any of his starts last year on TV. One of Getz's bad scouting mistakes so far imo.

His meatballs right down the cock of the plate were painful to watch.  I’m sure they look like beach balls to opposing batters.

Probably more like it.  I just remember Getz kept praising Brooks for selling Jerry on Murakami, so it may be a mutual thing between Brooks and Getz.

I liked it better when Brooks came out once a year to pump up the new stuff at the park, and he would just disappear for the rest of the season.  Now I know he is kind of a dick to work with and has driven off talent for petty reasons like he has an endless supply.  Don’t want to know that part

He sounds like a total boot licker to both Jerry and Getz.

Let's just say that very, very good sources have told me the relationship between the two was strained and that was part of the reason for Nancy's request.

Boom.  Thanks for the inside info.

Hopefully Brooks and Jerry are taking notes.

I doubt they are.  They dumped the guy getting multiple high profile national gigs for a guy best known for SlamBall.  🤣

Yea not gonna listen to a random redditor. This is from Brooks himself in an interview with our own @Lip Man 1

I wouldn’t necessarily trust Brooks either if it was his decision to reduce Faust’s role.  Perhaps @Lip Man 1 talked to Nancy as well?  I would be curious if she said the same thing, but even then it could be a matter of her not wanting to out her former employer and ruin her relationship with the team.

Not sure if this one is true as she has played spring training several of the past years and did a bunch of Sunday home games either last year or the year prior

Her role was reduced to part-time.  She never wanted a reduced role and would have stayed on full time.  It was allegedly Brooks Boyer’s decision according to the first link below.

Is this clearing the way to get Maxx?

    I wonder…

I read that Dalman’s retirement should free up $10 million in cap space, although they will obviously need to replace him.  But that’s $30 million in cap space freed up between Moore and Dalman.

Some fans think Braden Montgomery needs to have a few hundred more ABs in AA before he comes up to the majors.  Will that be the case with Roch or will he have a shorter runway?

I am not sure Colson Montgomery wants to shift to 3B or that he profiles as the prototypical third basemen. Vargas has the cat quick reflexes to play the hot corner. If he has a good offensive year, he may cement 3B has his starting position.  Nevertheless, if Roch proves to be an offensive force, the Sox will be compelled to plug him in at some position.

Never forget, Andrew Vaughn was supposed to be an offensive juggernaut.

LF, 1B, and DH could all open up within the next two seasons.  I doubt it will be a problem.

Maybe give Schriffen a fvking break. He is a nice young man who admittedly is learning on the job.

OK, he doesn't fit the parameters of what you think you wanted to see as Benetti's successor. So what.

Well, some Sox fans’ parameters are that Schriffen would be qualified to replace Benetti as the team’s play-by-play announcer.  The fact that you admit he is “learning on the job” sort of proves the point that he wasn’t.  Being a nice young man has nothing to do with being qualified for a job.

That's a wild fuckin thing to say, my friend. For a number of reasons.

I’m pretty sure caulfield’s point was that it’s a privilege to be able to attend a college with a tuition of $90K+ a year these days.  Not sure what the tuition was when Schriffen attended, but I’m sure it was still relatively expensive.  Either he earned a great scholarship, his parents had some money, or he had some nasty college loans to pay back after college.  I noticed in this article that Schriffen’s grandfather was the NAACP president of North Philadelphia, so it’s possible he had a nice connection as well.
